From the outside you would be correct in assuming that the Noosa tigers could be playing in the Western Border Grand Final this Saturday with all four of their specialist Coaching staff hailing from in and around the Hamilton area. The western Border football League off is of course a very strong competition in Country Victoria.
Firstly, we have Senior coach Wayne Fletcher whose playing and coaching feats make him a legend in that particular area. Fletch won several club and League medals with both the Hamilton Imperials and Nth Gambier Football Clubs and just recently was named in the Western Borders team of the Century. Fletch also coaching the Nth Gambier too 2 Premierships as a Captain Coach.
His Assistants at the Tigers are both Hamilton Boys also with Nifty Allen a very skilful and clever Footballer originating from the Hamilton Imperials. Nifty himself has played in several successful Premiership sides even a couple under our Football manager Doug Murray up at Airlie Beach. Don't mention Hamilton Imperials to our other off field Assistant Graeme Sommerville. He's a Hamilton Football Club man who also had a very successful Senior Football career in the Hamilton District. Graeme coached the district Club Dunkeld to their only Premiership in approx` 50 years and has brought a wealth of football experience to the Noosa Tigers. And last but by no means least, we have our ruck coach Ashley Trompf, father of Peter, ex Tiger senior Coach who hails from the same area where he played in a Senior Premiership for Glen Thompson before having much success with Warrnambool in the strong Hampden league and many other clubs across Country Victoria.
I’d say our 2009 Noosa tigers are in pretty good hands with these 4 very experienced men hailing from the same area. And if you believe in omens and good ones at that, which I do, funny that our last Premiership winning Coach Alan `Grumpy` Smith hails from the same area, coaching both Casterton and Millicent in which league? You guessed it, the Western Border.
All the best boys, we know you’ll have them up and going!
