The Tradelink Western Magpies will look to continue to make the most of the opportunity provided them in sneaking into the Finals when they take on Morningside on Saturday 11.15am at Esplen Oval in a knock out Simi Final. The 2009 record between the two sides is squared away with the Magpies taking the chocolates in round 6 by 61 points and Morningside in round 9 by 13 points. So this should be an outstanding contest and the Magpies will be backing themselves in if they can play the flowing attacking football they produced last week against Aspley.
The Magpies have settled into the business end of the season well after finally shaking off a slugish and inconsistent back end to the home and away season and the charge has been lead by CHB Jack Burford who has been in dominant form and the hard working Reid Dobson. Coach Peter McClennan shocked the football world in what turned out to be a master stroke when he started "spiritual leader" Brett McEvoy on the ground after using him exclusively off the bench for the whole home and away season. This will no doubt keep the Panthers brain trust guessing but they will have plenty of other problems with Jye Spencer, Peter Kilroy, Blake McClennan, Gabe McKinnon, Scott Clarke, Billy Moorhead, Matt Dillon and Drew Mitchell all in good form.
Brandon Morris was electric last week but struggled to get the ball through the big sticks and will need to make sure of his accuracy as will all of his team mates as bad kicking for goal last week flattered the Hornets in the final wash up. Big Jai Shires will continue work hard around the ground and put the ball to the advantage of the Magpies small brigade which will be a big factor if they are to qualify for a Prelimenary Final next week.
Good Luck Boys!!
