Brentwood Booragoon got a mixed bag of results for its C-Reserves and G-Grade teams in the Qualifying Finals held last Saturday 22nd August.
The C-Reserves commenced its third successive Finals campaign with a Qualifying Final showdown with former SFL club Thornile at Tom Perrott Reserve in Mosman Park. On the postage stamp sized ground and in blustery conditions, Brentwood Booragoon was engaged in a hard fought encounter against the 2nd placed Thornlie team. Both sides struggled in the conditions in the first half with Thornlie showing best adaptation early to make the early running before two late goals on half time from Brentwood Booragoon virtually tied the score at the major change.
The second half was a much more open encounter with Brentwood Booragoon breaking the shackles to run out comfortable winners in the end in what was a low scoring affair 8 : 10 - 58, to Thornlie 5 : 6 - 36.
Brentwood Booragoon now heads to Ray Owen Reserve in Kalamunda to take on the minor premier for direct passage into the 2009 Grand Final.
Brentwood Booragoon's other credentialled finals campaigner, G-Grade battled again second placed Bassendean at Jubilee Reserve, in Bassendean. The match was a tight affair from the first bounce will only a few points separating both clubs at each change. Brentwood Booragoon headed into the final 20 minutes with the slenderest of margins, but couldn't hold on as Bassendean kicked with the aid of a three goal breeze and eventually ran out winners by 11 points - 8 : 13 - 61, to 7 : 8 - 50.
Brentwood Booragoon will now re-group and look to next Saturday's 1st Semi-Final clash to Koongamia for the right to play in the Preliminary Final on Saturday 5th September.
