RIP Chopper Stannard

As the excitment around the Birre footy / netball club started to rise with the start of season 2011 we lost one of the true legends of the club, in Robert "Chopper" Stannard. Chopper passed away on Saturday morning as the club was preparing to do battle against Lorne after suffering from illness for 2 months. Chopper won 2 Senior B&Fs, 2 Reserves & 2 Juniors, played 499 Senior games after 2yrs in the Juniors and was a Life Member as well as having a number of roles around the club, junior coach and ressie team manager just a couple that come to mind. Deepest sympathies to Karen, Adam, Matt, Cassie and families.

Chopper was instantly recognisable on the field with his long sandy hair & Saints headband, just as easily spotted off the field with a red can, red fag & his Cats beanie.
