The first quarter of the AFLQ Division 1 Under 18 Elimination final was an absorbing one in which defence and pressure ruled and free flowing goal scoring was a luxury neither team gave the other. Only three scoring shots were allowed by both sides defence with Broadbeach going to the first break 1.1 to 0.1 leaders.
The second stanza freed up a bit and it was our Tigers that put down the pedal to put on 3 goals to 2 and looked the more impressive team with 5 shots at goal to 1 to head to the main break 2 points ahead.
Kicking with the breeze again in the third saw Broadbeach edge ahead but again it was against the stern resistance of our defensive efforts and great tackling. 5.1 to 3.5 at 3/4 time and with only an 8 point lead, Shane Hunt urged the boys for that big effort that would take the Tiger Cubs to another match the next week.
Sadly it was Broadbeach that sewed the match up kicking 4 goal to two in the final quarter to take the match and progress into the second week of the finals.
Our boys certainly didnt lose any respect and can be proud of their 2009 season.
Noosa 0.1 3.3 3.5 5.5 (35)
Broadbeach 1.1 3.1 5.1 9.3 (57)
