The Lismore Swans hosted the double header semi finals at Mortimor Oval this weekend between Tweed Coast Tigers and the Ballina Bombers and was followed by the Lismore Swans and Byron Bay Magpies. A big crowd turned up to enjoy some good footy.
The Swans could not quite take advantage of the opportunity to go straight through to the grandfinal going down to Byron by 25 points.
Byron opened with the first major but the Swans quickly responded as and first 15 minutes proved to be a high scoring affair before Byron kicked a couple of late goals. Swans down by 22 at the first stage.
Swans picked up the intensity in the second quarter however did not make the most of there opportunities upforward while Byron did, and this was the difference. Swans down by 12 at half time.
Early goal each was kicked in the third term and Swans inaccuracy in front of goal prevented the score from being much closer. Swans down by 13 at the final break.
The Swans started well early in the final term bringing down the margin to 7 points 10 minutes into the final term, however once again a few goals missed and few Byron goals kicked finished the game for the Swannies.
However as a reward for all the boys efforts throughout the year the Swans will get a second crack at making the grandfinal when they take on the Tweed Coast Tigers in the premliminary final this weekend at Fripp Oval Ballina.
