The Bloods travelled to Yea FNC for the very first time to battle out 4 tough matches. The Under 18s were fixtured to play at Warburton/Millgrove but got the call Thursday night to say that the Burra's were forfeiting. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
NETBALL
A GRADE
On a superb sunny day we travelled to Yea to meet the challenge of playing one of the top teams. A tough physical game was played with our girls putting in a really solid game. A fabulous game to watch, it had all the spills and tight checking body play of two teams really wanting the win. The team is displaying skill and speed and proving they are a team that are now competitive against any team in the comp.
A close first half saw Yea only just ahead at half time. Samantha in Centre gave Yea plenty to chase, Cassie in WD was fantastic again and Elle and Fiona made the Yea attack work hard to receive the ball in the goal circle. Lucy again showed her strength as GA taking many contested balls and converting to score 30 goals, a great effort. The final score was 37 to 52. Although a loss of 15 and we didn't get the points on the ladder, it was a fantastic effort against Yea.
We are looking forward to Yarra Junction next week, a win to finish off the season, and to Lucy scoring 33 goals to make her total for the season 300. Go Lucy & girls !
B GRADE
It was a tough match this week, with Yea who are currently 4th on the ladder. It was a great effort by the girls but we just couldn't utilize the ball in the attack end, with their strong defence it was hard for Georgia and Elise to get the ball into the ring. It was outstanding effort by the defenders, Helen, Bernadette, Jacqui, and Elise playing her first game in GK, but we just couldn’t get on top of them. They took the lead early and maintained it throughout the whole match.
Our last game this coming week against Yarra Junction should be an interesting match and hopefully we can get close to pulling off a win !
FOOTBALL
U18s
Olinda Ferny Creek defeated Warburton/Millgrove via a forfeit.
RESERVES
Despite being hit by injuries, the Reserves side acquitted themselves very well by beating Yea on their own ground by 64 points. Ash Reid stepped up to another level in his bid to regain senior selection with a strong performance at CHB, whilst he was well supported in defence by the ever reliable Lloyd Tanzen. In the mid field Simon Leone clicked up his usual high possession rate with both James O’Reilly, Paul Simmons, Tim Wall & Russell Sloan giving us plenty of opportunities with their excellent running games. Sharpshooter Adam Borg bagged another 6 for the week giving him 76 goals for the season.
With arch rival Kinglake being beaten by Yarra Glen on the weekend, our Reserves will end up the home & away season in top spot, a feat never before achieved. Well done to Keithy & his charges!
So far so good, but the hard work continues if we are to finish the job in the finals.
SENIORS
Great win by the seniors, fantastic team effort to kick 38 goals and even better considering the size of the ground.
Glen Stevens had a day out with 7 goals and quite a few players kicked 4 & 3 goals.
The feature of the day was a massive grab by Ben Day who “Wawrick Cappered” himself on the shoulders of a Yea opponent and landed on the ground without the footy but managed to catch it again.
Needed to go off after landing badly but it seemed worth the effort.
