The Tigers inaugural Summerland Home & Away season finished on Saturday with the Tigers having a bye and launching what is hoped to become an annual Last Round Bye Tigers 20/20 Cricket Match.
With a lot of cheap talk leading into the Cricket match (held at Pottsville Oval), pride was on the line and bragging rights goes to Jimbob’s Jumbucks who systematically destroyed Joey’s Jillaroo’s in a classic game of backyard rules 20/20.
The final score was unknown due to some dubious scoring by Herc (who was paid off by Joey in beers) but the Jumbuck’s batting display would of taught the Poms a thing or 2. Popey, Nankers, Jimbob, Strope, Earle and BK all got amongst the runs carting the bowling of Col, Don, Oscar and Finzy all over the paddock, only highlights for the Jillaroo’s was the bowling of Jules and Joey.
Strope then proceeded to open the bowling for the Jumbuck’s by pushing of the fence and unleashed some serious chin music. Col and Jules batted well for the Jillaroo’s and Don put in a last stand but was brought apart in the crucial final over’s by Jimbob with some accurate jaffa’s. Special mention also for the groms with Jake, Scottie, Bodhi all outperforming their senior counterparts whilst young Kyriel took 2 outfield species to turn the game the Jumbucks way.
It was a great day of team bonding leading into the finals. The battle will be resumed on the end of season trip with the smart money on the Jumbuck’s to whitewash the series.
This weekend see’s the Tweed Coast Tigers head into their first final series when they take on the Ballina Bombers at Mortimor Oval Lismore. The Tiger’s have their tales up after beating Byron last week but a strong week of training and a solid performance will be required to beat the tough Ballina side.
Game starts at 12pm on Saturday followed by the 2nd semi between Byron and Lismore. It will be a great day of AFL and all Tiger’s supporters are encouraged to make the journey to Lismore to support the team.
