A fortnight ago we made the long trip to the Bay and what started out looking like an ordinary day weatherwise improved as the day progressed.
The Junior Colts went down to a determined Port Mac side. Awards: KAOS - Tom Schulz, Pete Walters: J Thorpe, Gary Nilsson - B Davies, John Cavanagh - B Watson, HFC Ladies Committee - J Telfer and H SP & Rec Steak award: J Barclay
The Senior Colts had a positive week on the training track, we were looking forward to having a solid hit out against Port Mac. Unfortunately inconsistent commitment was a factor again and we were outplayed by a better team. After a bit of a rev up and a couple of home truths at half time, the boys did display a greater effort in the second half, however we just couldn't quite catch a break and weren't able to convert a major for the day. With only 2 games to go for us, hopefully the improvements that have been seen on and off throughout the latter part of the year can be demonstrated with a little more success. Seebohm Sportspower - D Fabris, Gary Nilsson - J Simmons, John Cavanagh - K Agnew, HFC Ladies - T Brennan and Sport & Rec Steak - B Aardenburg
The Reserves came away with a healthy win, increasing their chances of back to back flags: Awards: K & S Ampol- S Lambert, Beachport Hotel - J O’Neil, Dave’s Panel & Paint - E Strother and Grand Hotel - S Uotila
The Seniors went down by 2 in a tightly contested match. Awards: Somerset Hotel: B Sneath, Beachport Hotel: M Bowman, Millicent Golf Club - F Brennan, Bompas Meal Voucher - B Bateman. Calcutta: 1st Brett Sneath, 2nd Matt Bowman, 3rd Frank Brennan
Last Tuesday evening Billy Brownless entertained a packed house at Hatherleigh. Everyone who attended enjoyed both Billy's lighter side but also some of his more serious thoughts on football and AFL identities. A huge thank you to "Bob" Jones for not only being the MC for the evening but also for picking Billy up from Mt Gambier and looking after him for the evening (and into the wee small hours I believe). The DeBruin family very generously donated meat for the evenings meal. Those fortunate enough to be there all agreed it was superb and look forward to being able to purchase it in the future from Fosters Foodland. Lorraine Faulkner once again excelled with a delicious meal. Thank you also to her band of helpers (Sarah Haines, Margie Bowman, Yvonne Duckworth, Marina Scudds, Di Wight and Loretta Breeding) who worked tirelessly in the kitchen. Thank you to Zoe Blum, Nicole Skeer, Cameron Slape and Josh Gulbin who waitered drinks, cleared tables and washed endless piles of dishes. Also a big thank you to Yvonne and the staff at Ducky’s Staff for happily selling tickets on the clubs behalf leading up to the big night. Last but not least a huge well done and thanks to Kinga without his foresight and organisation skills the night wouldn’t have been possible. Thanks Kinga.
This week’s Pat on the Back goes to Daryl (Reffo) Smith. Each home match Reffo cleans and organizes the BBQ. Each week he cajoles and organizes two volunteers to cook for the masses. Each week he does this without any fuss or acknowledgement. So today we would like to thank Reffo for his continued efforts over many years and hope to see him back next year. Alongside Reffo we have Prancy and his band of merry helpers who each home match man the stubby bar for the sport and Rec. Each week they give up their footy viewing to serve the masses that gather as the afternoon progresses. Thanks Prancy, Dale and crew who serve our supporters and visitors without a grumble every week.
This week we acknowledge the following sponsors for the continued support. Please make sure that whenever you can you support those who support your club. Thanks to Deb and Ken Reimann at Rivoli Bay Deli, Mick and Cheryl Brennan from SE Pasture Renovations, and Paul and Kerry Gulbin from Total Floor Finishing for all your floor restorations and total painting needs.

August 11 (Tuesday): at 7.30pm the Hatherleigh sporting community have an evening with Roger Babolka from the Limestone Coast Regional Development Board. Personal on these committees will change and it is vital for the success of our clubs and sporting teams to have knowledgeable and resourceful committee members. If your family currently enjoys the benefits of the Hatherleigh Sporting facilities seriously consider attending this evening.
