When you think about U16 football, six foot six and built like an adult dont come to mind. But that is what confronted our lads on Sunday when they took on top of the table Redcliffe on their own ground.
Redcliffe boast 3 players well over six foot four inches and when they kicked 3 goals in the first 5 minutes due mainly to their height advantage, it looked like we were in for a long day.
To the boys credit thay fought back hard and kicked the next 3 goals to go into quarter time on even terms. From then on it was goal for goal with both teams tackling very well and playing a terrific standard of football.
We trailed by 7 points at three qaurter time and redcliffe kicked the first goal of the term. The lads worked really hard and when Harry Champion kicked a goal from 50mtrs the boys could feel themselves over running the bigger team.
With just seconds to spare and the ball on our forward flank, Daniel Farry gave a slick handball to Reece ODwyer who kicked straight from 35 and brought the crowd to life as we nudged our nose infront.
The ball then went into the Tigers forward line but with great defending and smart play by controlling the footy, the siren sounded and the Hornets got home by the smallest of margins.
