On a hot Sunday afternoon and with a few of the lads doubling up after playing in the reserves on Saturday, it was going to be hard going against a quality team.
Once again we had a bit of a slow start with Broadbeach jumping to a 3 goal lead
early in the first term. Mark Leddy was providing a target up forward and by
half time the boys had clawed their way back into the game. For the next 2 terms
it was goal for goal with the Hornets jumping to a 7 point lead going into the final quarter.
Morgan Eyles and Tom henderson were having great games and continually driving the ball forward.
Jack Guest, Harley Clark and Taylor McCubbin stepped up from U16s to fill in and did a terrfic
job for the team. Taylor in particular was fantastic and was one of the best
players on the day.
The last term was a nailbiter as the cats kicked the first 2 goals to snatch back the lead.
Just when it looked like we were about to tire and let the Cats run away with the
game, Billy Driffeild took a strong mark and kicked truely to grab the lead with
minutes left.
With a 1 point lead and 30 seconds on the clock, a throw in close to the cats goal resulted
in a quick left foot snap that won the game for the Cats.
Unfortunelty we didnt win but we once again showed terrific spirit and the
ability to never give in.
Well Done Guys
