The Emu Plains/Glenmore Park Lions Junior AFL Club this week became the first club in NSW and the ACT to achieve accreditation under the new AFL Quality Club Program.
This prestigious recognition was announced on Tuesday when Kirsty Moon, AFL (NSW/ACT) Club Development Officer for Western Sydney, presented the award to the Lions committee.
The Quality Club Programhas been designed to provide an opportunity for all community football clubs throughout NSW and the ACT to benchmark their club operations and administration via a ranking system (bronze, silver and gold level).
The benefits of participating in the Quality Club program include:
•Providing an environment which helps attract new participants, officials, members and sponsors, as well as retaining those the club already has
•Creating a best practice guide for club committees
•Minimising many risks associated with running a sporting club and
•Participating in a sport that can continue to promote itself as a leading sport where quality is valued highly
Emu Plains/Glenmore Park President, John Rix, said the club was honoured to gain accreditation for the new initiative.
“The club has had much of the criteria in place for many years but the program provided an opportunity to officially document the policies and provide strong guidelines for the future.
“New players and parents joining the club can be assured of an enjoyable and successful experience. Knowing that all coaching staff are fully accredited and all teams have experienced and registered first aid trainers on hand, along with strict Code of Conduct regulations, certainly puts parent’s minds at rest when selecting a sport and a club for their children.
“It is also of great assistance in obtaining sponsorship with potential sponsors knowing that their “brand” will be associated with a quality club.”
Emu Plains / Glenmore Park Lions Quality Club Coordinator, Greg Corless, was extremely pleased to hear of the Bronze Level accreditation.
“The committee was 100 per cent behind the program from day one. I am always amazed by the efforts of the club’s volunteers and the enthusiasm shown in this project was outstanding. Although it appeared to be a rather a daunting task at first, with the assistance of the club and the guidance of Kirsty Moon from AFL (NSW/ACT), it really was an easy and enjoyable task.
“To be the first club in the State to gain this recognition is an honour for everyone involved with the Lions. I would certainly encourage all clubs, particularly in Western Sydney, to embrace this program”
