Another windy day and it was business as usual against another opponent looking to extend their season – NOBS. We started really well and kicked 6 in the first term due to the hard work of our forwards in O’Meara, Lucarelli, Woods, Mirrabella and the steely resolve of the onballers Brosolo, Stafford, Kennedy, Kelly. We were certainly up and about in the second quarter and played more great winning football as Scannell emerged with his relentless running to snag a pair of great majors. Daou & Mirrabella were giving us strong targets and had posted 3 between them at half time. We were winning all over the ground as big Cunners worked tirelessly to feed our on ballers. The backs were resolute and lead admirably by Glenn Brine who continued his excellent form. Along with Dogga Smith they held ground and counter attacked with great purpose!
The major break and a handy lead but that was where it stopped, we came out and threatened immediately with an early goal and a Mirrabella mark 25mtr out from goal directly in front that was reversed!! From there our day got dirty with 2 reports and subsequent send offs which saw us playing 17 against 18!! Injuries began to mount with Langford, M Stafford and Cunningham all injured. We held a slim lead at 3 quarter time but we couldn’t hold the building momentum of NOBS. Add to that a dumb coach who flogged the boys at the Doncaster athletics track on Tuesday night and it is no wonder we ran out of legs in the end!
However we learned plenty from the game about how to respond in challenging circumstances and so our run of 7 wins ground to a halt! In perspective we have played 5 of our last 7 games away from home and returned a 6-1 score line!! As we all know success is not forever but a loss is not fatal we will bounce back more determined then ever this week as we take on the relegation contenders South Melbourne with a real point to prove against them, look out Bloods!!!
Cheers, Feuta
