Last week was our second home game in a row and our second to last for the season. The rain held off but the wind chill factor was another matter. We hosted the Hawks and nearly caused an upset in the Seniors and did cause one in the Juniors.
The Junior Colts beat the undefeated Hawks by 3 points. The boys kept them goal less in the 3rd and Tom Schulz kicked the winning goal in the last. Thorpy killed it all day and Brodie Davis did a great job on their big centre half forward. Dylan Montouri did a great job tagging their better blokes. Well done to Fergus Slape who stepped up when he needed to. Awards: Ducky’s Surf: John Thorpe, Pete Walters: Brodie Davis, Gary Nilsson: Dylan Montouri, John Cavanagh: Tom Schulz, HFC Ladies: Fergus Slape and Sport & Rec Steak: Jarrod Brinsley
The Senior Colts were towelled up the last time these 2 sides met and this week they went down by 8. Commitment is needed by more than the regular 10-12 players. Barry Aardenburg contributed at both ends of the field and once again earned a spot in the Senior side. Others to do well were Michael Ogilvie, Darcy Bateman, Jaeson Simmo and Slapey. Awards: Seebohms Sportspower: Darcy Bateman, Gary Nilsson: Barry Aardenburg, John Cavanagh: Michael Ogilvie, KAOS Video: Jaeson Simons, HFC Ladies: Cameron Slape and Sport & Rec Steak: Stephen Ogilvie.
The Reserves battled hard but were no match for the Hawks. Shane Lambert and Luke Haines continue to play well week in and week out. I’m not sure if these guys are guaranteed a spot in the 4 yet so they will have to work hard over the coming weeks to get the wins on the board. Awards: Beaurepaires: Shane Lambert, Millicent 4WD Systems: Robbie Bateman, Daves Panel & Paint: Shaun Uotila, Beachport Hotel: Luke Haines and Grand Hotel: Justin Winter
The Seniors nearly snatched the points going down by 5 in a nail biting finish. Nothing seemed to go the way of our boys, but that’s Footy. Sam Fitz continued his good form from last week and Nicko Ellis is getting better each week. Franky B chipped in with 5 and there were many others who contributed
to the scoreline.
Calcutta Winners: 1st Mat Faulkner 2nd Matt Bowman and equal 3rd Frank Brennan and Sam Fitzgerald.
100s Club Winner for July 16: Bob Wakelin
A reminder to all players and supporters that the Junior Colts are guaranteed a spot in the finals – I’m sure that Muff and the boys would appreciate your support over the next couple of months.
I hear that Louis and Eli’s joint 21st went off with a bang, there were some outrageous outfits on offer; it’s a pity that our footballers don’t scrub up as well as the netballers.
Dates to keep free:
July 28 (Tuesday): Billy Brownless tickets are still available from Ducky’s Surf or from Kinga, at the Club on 28 July. $30 per ticket includes a 2 course meal, so
if you would like to come and hear one of footballs larger than life characters recount some of his footy memories tickets are available at Duckys Surf or Kinga at the club.
August 8 (Saturday): Don’t forget to get a table together for the “Spicks and Specks Wizz” Music Trivia Night, after the Kalangadoo game. See Sara Gray to book a table. Last week’s teaser was: “What local grown talent had a hit with “I’m not pretty enough” in 2002?” Kasey Chambers. This week’s teaser is: “What British group got its name from the title of a 1950 Muddy Waters song?” Still too easy? Come along to the night and pit your music knowledge against an array of other musical geniuses.
August 11 (Tuesday): at 7.30pm the Hatherleigh sporting community have an evening with Roger Babolka from the Limestone Coast Regional Development Board. Roger will be addressing the following issues of club management/ budgets, club marketing and sponsorship. All current committees would encourage new faces to come along and gain a feel for what currently happens and what we can aim for in the future. Personal on these committees will change and it is vital for the success of our clubs and sporting teams to have knowledgeable and resourceful committee members. If your family currently enjoys the benefits of the Hatherleigh Sporting facilities seriously consider attending this evening.
August 15 (Saturday): Last week’s "Hatherleigh's got talent" had to be postponed. Don't despair it will now be held after the final home match against Glencoe. See Jase Faulkner for details

Hatherleigh Football Club is so very fortunate to have some wonderful and ever reliable volunteers. Many we see each week doing their thing but have you ever wondered how or who does some of the other jobs about the place. Over the next few weeks we will give some of these less prominent supportive club people a "Pat on the Back" First cab off the rank is Gary Schulz. Every Friday evening prior to a home game Gary comes out and marks the oval in preparation for the next day. Another non committee person to put in each week is Rob Chant. Rob umpires the junior colts match each week and does a magnificent job. The umpiring powers that be have acknowledged Robs efforts and have asked that he be involved with umpiring during the finals series. Congratulations Rob! As well as this Rob volunteers to help the boys do teas every third Thursday night. Thanks Gary and Rob your club truly appreciates your efforts.
This week we also thank our sponsors "At the Jetty” who donate ice for the stubby bar and players ice buckets each week as well as their corporate sponsorship. Thank you also to Fiona & Ash at Millicent Farm Supplies and Grant at Millicent Tyre Centre for their support. Remember to support these generous businesses when you can."
Good Luck to all teams this week down at the Bay.
