In cold, wet and windy conditions we played host to Nangwarry last week. I’m a bit worried about the look on Wighty’s & Kinga’s faces when they get home and see their beloved oval.
The Junior Colts cam up against an improved Nangwarry side in a muddy and messy affair. We lost Tom Schulz and Sam Telfer early but the lesser likes came to the fore and led us to a good win. Awards: Ducky's Surf: Dylan Montouri, Pete Walters: Fergus Slape, John Cavanagh: Brad Wight, Gary Nilsson: Tyler Snook, HFC Ladies: Dan Sutherland and Sport & rec Steak: Johno Andrea.
The Senior Colts were fortunate and had good numbers last week and “loaned” some players to Nanga’s for the day (well done to these blokes). It was a good hit out for all players. Tom Waring put in a 100% in the ruck, scored a goal and $10 from Mum. Jaeson Simon had a great game as did Barry Aardenburg. Dylan Cloughs game was his best for the season (so good even his mum commented). I didn’t get the awards this week so my apologies to those who received them.
The Reserves played well despite the conditions. Fill in coach Stinger was about as nervous as they come but did a great job. Incentives went to Luke Haines and Mat Fabris. Awards: Beaurepaires: Luke Haines, Millicent 4WD Systems: Mathew Fabris, Dave’s Panel & Paint: Jason Uzzell, Beachport Hotel: Luke Vearing and Grand Hotel: Shane Lambert.
The Seniors game wasn’t a great spectacle, Mat Faulkner’s late withdrawal gave Senior Colts Baz Aardenburg his first game of Senior footy and he acquitted himself well. The first ¼ intensity was good but Nangwarry are in the four and their skills outshone ours in the final 3 quarters. Fatz played a great second ½ and Jase Faulkner made an impressive return from his travels. Sneathy continued his great form and Jase Bateman also played well. Backliners Fitzy and Feathers played their best games for the year. Awards: Tony Egan's Menswear: Darren Paul, Somerset Hotel: Jase Faulkner, Beachport Hotel: Brett Sneath and Bompas: Jase Bateman.
The Senior Colts have finally received their long overdue new Guernsey's, they look great and special thanks to the Hatherleigh Football Club Ladies Committee who helped fund their acquisition. Special mention must also be made of Wanda & Trevor Waring who took it upon themselves to sell Egg and Bacon rolls each home match to contribute to the cost of the boys new jumpers. Well done to all I am sure the boys and their parents appreciate your efforts.
Phil’s Wheel Winner last Thursday was our illustrious Sport & Rec President Matt Ballantyne who took away the princely sum of $1! Not bad considering he bought 2 tickets at $2 each.
Don’t forget to get a table together for the “Spicks and Specks Wizz” Music Trivia Night, after the Kalangadoo game August 8. See Sara Gray for details. This week’s teaser is: “What local grown talent had a hit with “I’m not pretty enough” in 2002? To easy? Answer next week.
