The Swans were downed by Byron today in the top of the tables clash in Bangalow. The Swans just took too long to get going putting the side in a difficult position to come back from. The ball bounced Byron's way and they took advantage of the play.
The Swans kicked against the breeze in the first and struggled to keep in touch with Byron kicking a solitary goal and finding themselves 22 points down after the first break.
The Swans showed glimpses of good footy in the second however were outscored again as the backline had to work overtime. Swans down by 32 at the half way mark.
The third quarter started off very poorly for the Swans allowing Byron to blow out the game. It wasn't until midway through the third quarter that the Swans switched on inspired by some great attacking footy by Mitch Montgomery resulting in goals. The Swans down by 37 at the final break.
Lismore started the final quarter in great fashion kicking goals and reduciing the margin to 19 points midway through the final term however Byron settled with a few goals and once again blew out the final margin to 39 points. Lismore 12.6-78 to Byron 17.15-117.
Overall a poor performance by the Swans with plenty of opportunities to improve over the next few weeks.
Goal kickers were 3 to Mitch Montgomery, 2 each to Wesley Seewald and Daniel Moloney, and singles to George Massa, Eddie Burton, Josh Mapstone, Lincoln Shinners, and Ryan Woolley.
Best for the Swans were Angus Legoe, Mitch Montgomery, Jason Bevan, Josh Mapstone, Phil Tsourlinis and Simon Howard.
