The Craig Coghlan trophy was won by Dean Stephen. Other best in the awards were Matt Greig, Luke Cotchett, Robbie Ross, Kris Bardon, Ash Froud. Play of Day to Dan Papillo. Congratulations to Leigh Morse for his 50th game for the Club and he played very well.
The Reserves put on their best display as a team so far with Ryan Henderson dominating the ruck and winning the Perry Fletcher Trophy. Other Best in the Awards were Luke Pisano, Chris Whitchell, Michael Rogneda, Josh Davis, in fact everyone. The boys were fantastic. Unfortunately we had no Colts game.
Coming up we have a Xmas in July Dinner at the Club on Saturday Night the 25th of July. Just $35 a head. A chance for players, committee and supporters to get together.

We were pleased to see that young Alex Greenwood was named second Best in Vic Metro’s first game in the U16 National Championships. Also Brad Neil was named second Best in Box Hill Seniors this week. We are always proud to see Vermont boys doing well.

A great day for the Club winning both matches – the Colts had a bye. After being 11th on the ladder 6 weeks ago, the seniors are now in the five on percentage replacing Noble Park. Overcast with light showers at the Bullring with Papillo replacing Tim Johnson.
The Eagles dominated the first quarter playing strong direct footy. After 3 early misses Stephen kicked the first goal. The intensity was terrific. Mullett goaled via Stephen and when Bardon drilled one down Greig’s throat for a goal it was game on.
Nummy kicked 2 goals with Stephen in a build up. Froud goaled and before the siren Bardon goaled on the run. At ¼ time we led 7-5 to 2 behinds. I noted up to 10 players who were having top games.
The Bulls were on top early in the 2nd term kicking the first goal. Cotchett was terrific along with Stephen, Cullen, Millhouse and Morse. We kicked 5-4 to 4-4 for the quarter.Greig kicked 3 goals with Cotchett and Griffiths kicking the others. At half time we led 12-9 to 4-6. Better players for the half were Cotchett, Stephen, Cullen, Bardon, Nummy, Mullett, Millhouse, Morse, Ross, McLure, Greig and Froud. Mark Cullen was having a very good game but was injured just before the break.
The third quarter was outstanding. We kicked 10-2 to 2-2 to absolutely bury them. Ross, Cotchett, Nummy, Mendes and Froud led the way. Froud kicked 3 goals one of which would have done Peter Daicos proud – it was a dribble checkside snap. Greig kicked 2 goals with singles to Griffiths, Henley, Mendes, Nummy and Cotchett. It was Luke Cotchett’s best game at the club and Nummy was in rare form. At ¾ time we led 22-11 to 6-8.
Bull’s coach Alan Ezard reminded his players at ¾ time about the importance of percentage. They certainly responded by kicking 5 of the first 6 goals of the last quarter. Three goals got us back on track in the percentage race – goals came from Froud via Cotchett, Greig and Griffiths. The backline was terrific all day with Waller and McCarthy at their spoiling best while Morse playing his 50th game was very solid. Rushton left the ground before ¾ time to return briefly in the last quarter. A mighty win by 78 points which translated in the Eagles gaining 5th spot by 4 percent.
Better players for the half were – Cotchett, Ross, Stephen, Mullett, Froud, Greig, Nummy, Mendes and Ross. Ross was terrific all day but McLure also played a significant part in our win.
Goalkickers – Greig 7, Froud 5, Griffiths and Nummy 3 each, Cotchett 2 with singles to Henley, Mullett, Mendes, Stephen and Bardon.
Best Players – Cotchett, Stephen, Ross, Froud, Greig, Nummy, Mendes, Mullett, Morse, McLure and Bardon – with apologies to Millhouse, Henley and many others.

Coach’s Comments – David had the flu and no voice – however Club President David Dressing addressed the boys and said they thoroughly deserved their win.

A very even first quarter with little scoring. Our 2 goals came from Rosewarne via McDonald and Henderson via Cameron. McInerney had 9 possessions for the term while Whitchell was outstanding in the backline. At ¼ time we led 2-1 to 1-2.
We kicked 5-4 to 1 behind in the 2nd quarter. Ryan kicked the first then we scored 2 goals without the ball going back to the centre – Dore then Rosewarne after an infringement. One of the quarter highlights was a Luke Davis smother while Whitchell continued to be best on ground. Ryan kiced his 2nd for the term as we went in at ½ time leading 6-5 to 1-3. Better players for the half were Whitchell, Rogenda, McDonald, Johnson, McInerney and Henderson.
We added 3-5 to 2-6 in the third term. Goals came from Luke Davis and 2 from Dore. Luke Davis was playing his best game for the year. Travis Bird had a good quarter attacking the ball hard. At ¾ time we had the game in our keeping 9-10 to 3-9.
We defended well gain in the last quarter with the Bulls scoring only 1 goal. Our 3 goals came from Henderson, Caneva and Rogneda. Henderson played a good game all day while Pisano’s tackling and ground level play was an inspiration. Ryan dominated his wing all day while Rogneda went about his work in his usual reliable way. Better players for the half were – Henderson, Whitchell, T.Bird, Johnson, Dore, Rogneda, L.Davis. Ryan, Pisano and Fary.
Goalkickers – Dore 3, Henderson, Ryan and Rosewarne 2 each with singles to L.Davis, Caneva and Rogneda.
John McCarthy tracked some players with stats – Johnson 17 kicks and 8 handballs, Pisano 5 tackles and 3 spoils, Henderson 25 possessions and 23 hit outs, McInerney 24 possessions and Dore 19.
Coach’s Best Players – Henderson, Whitchell, Rogneda, Johnson, Alexander and McInerney.
Coach’s Comments – Our style of footy was terrific to watch. I saw blokes blocking for each other. It’s starting to come together.
