Round 12 of the QAFL Velocity Sports Cup will see the Tradelink Western Magpies searching for a maiden victory for 2009 and have the Labrador Tigers in their sights this Saturday. The Tigers gave the Magpies a rude awakening on the Coast back in Round 2 but the Magpies have consistently proven to be a much better side at their Chelmer home Wildbrook Wines Park. As the season has progressed the Magpies line up has transformed either by trial and error or by necessity but that evolution could create the combination that will get the 4 points.
Round 2 CHF Luke Scott is in sensational form at Full Back and will no doubt give Fred Seeth a challenge as he has Ewing and Morrison in his last two matches. Possibly joining him in defence at CHB will be David Hamill who was at Full Forward in Round 2 but produced his best performance of 2009 at Centre half back last week. This leaves coach Paul Grentell pondering weather to leave Hamill at CHB and release Ed McDonnell to CHF after spending most of the year holding together a defence under siege which could ad a whole new dimention to the Magpies.
Through the midfield Val Pope is showing every sign of hitting a rich vien of form which could once again be a timely advantage for the Pies which if given the opportunities could set Josh Barton up for a big bag down forward. Last week the Western magpies played their 40th player for the year and the list could potentially grow again this week with skillful Will Fozzard potentially returning and following on from an outstsanding debut from Nick Ilesea last week the opportunity could be given to gutsy Chris McLennan who has impressed with his progression through the U/18's and Reserves after recovering from an injury that did not see him play until Round 8.
