After 10 rounds and with much early promise we find ourselves in 8th position on the ladder with 3 only 3 wins. A disappointing result with some early promise and some good early performances. We were competitive for 3 quarters against Northcote Park in Rd 1 before giving the game away with a very lazy last quarter. Round 2 we got up against North Heidelberg in a tight struggle. Round 3 we took it up to the reigning premiers at Heidelberg and if a bit of luck had gone our way we could have found ourselves in front deep into the last quarter. Since then we have only ourselves to blame losing winnable games against Lalor, being 4 goals up at 3/4 time against Greensborough, we had a comfortable win against Thomastown, Bundoora blew us away in the 1st qtr and we came from behind to beat Eltham with Billy Morrison having a devastating last quarter. Mont outplayed us when we were kicking with the breeze handing them 5 easy goals as a result of our errors. Last weekend we had control of the match for almost 3 quarters before being blown away in the last quarter. A disappointing result considering the early efforts.
The season has dealt us some serious injuries early in the season but with the players we have put on the park we were looking forward to some more positive results. The Injury list so far includes; Ryan Ewing broken leg twice - 12 weeks, Dean Davies broken leg - 9 weeks, Damien Smith back - several weeks, Matt Whittaker ankle - 4 weeks, Dale Piggott knee - 6 weeks, Ali Fahour knee - 4 weeks, Luke Mckenna knee - season, Michael Dufficy stress fractures - season.
Some quality players have come to the club this year including Jake Williams, Dean Davies, Ali Fahour, Glenn Robertson, Haydn Anderson, Adam Mckenzie and Billy Micevski wh have all impressed. Its great to see the return of former juniors Ramez Dagher and Matty Holmes. Luke Mckenna in his 1st year up from the 19s was probably in ou best 3 all year before having a full knee reconstruction. Once again several under 19 players have been having a good taste of senior football, these include Corey Ray, Jacob Ramaekers, Jason Defelice, Luke Vincitorio (who is part of the leadership group), Kane Heaney, Jamie Doukas, James McInerney and Daniel Butera.
The road ahead sees us tackle Heidelberg at Home this week 4th July then were away to Lalor and Greensborough before playing 4 of the last 5 games at home. With our entire list bar 1 under the age of 26 we will continue to work at ways of improving our on field performance this year and for future years. So make sure you get along and continue supporting the club.
