ASPLEY HORNETS – SAVING OUR COMMUNITY’S WATER
Aspley Hornets with assistance from the Australian Government’s Community Water Grants today launched a rainwater harvest and storage scheme set to save some 4.8 million litres of water annually.
The Hornets received $38,500 in Round 3 of Community Water Grants. The Aspley Hornets has been in operation since 1964 and supports more than 1,000 local juniors and three senior Australian Football sides. The Club had 5 sides win premierships in 2008.
“We are proud to work together with the Australian Government to help improve water efficiency within our community,” said Club president Tony Tucker.
The project involved the installation of low flow tap fittings in kitchens and bathrooms, efficient cisterns in toilets and urinals as well as the installation of four large ‘Bladda Tanks’ under the building.
These Bladda tanks harvest the rain water from the Club’s roof and plumb it back through the toilets and urinals in the clubhouse.
“Community Water Grants encourage better water use and improvements in water quality through practical on-the-ground projects, such as reducing pollutants reaching our waterways, and water recycling and efficiency initiatives,” said Mr Tucker.
Community Water Grants is part of the $2 billion Australian Government Water Fund. Water savings, recycling and treatment projects that demonstrate community involvement and a clear public benefit are eligible for funding up to $50,000.
