SENIORS FINAL SCORE
VERMONT 20-20-140 def EAST BURWOOD 10-6-66
A perfect day for football and the Ladies lunch. For the first time this year we won all grades. It was a gutsy effort by the reserves who were down on numbers and played 4 colts players from the early game. In the seniors there was only one change with McInerney on Box Hill duty replaced by Tim Johnson.
The Rams were pumped up early and kicked the first goal. Greig obliged the punters with first goal for the eagles but the Rams quickly replied. Froud and Cotchett goaled to give us a one point lead at ¼ time.
The second term was the Greig and Froud show. Greig kicked the first two goals then Fround kicked two then Greig capped off a terrific quarter with our last goal before half time. We should have been miles infront except for inaccurate kicking from close range. We kicked 5-7 for the quarter to 1-2 to lead at ½ time 8-10 to 4-4. Better players for the half were Cotchett, Froud, Greig, Ross, Mendes, Cullen, Stephen, Mullett and Waller. A special mention to Nummy who with limited game time was responsible in the build up to 2 goals.
In the third term we added 8-5 to 2-2 to blow the game apart. Cotchett kicked the first of the quarter followed by Griffiths then Mullhouse was moved to the forward line and kicked 2 quick goals one of them came after a piece of Michael Stewart magic when his mid-air kick found Millhouse infront of goal. More goals from Henley, Millhouse and then a typical Rushton goal on the run. Before the siren Griffiths booted one deep and long in the pocket. Mikkhouse had a big impact on the game during this term along with Ross, Stewart, Stephen and Waller. At ¾ time we led 16-15 to 6-6.
It was 4 goals each in the last quarter with Griffiths again kicking a long one for his third. Froud and Greig who had been so lively in the first half only picked up 9 possessions between them in the 2nd half but other players stepped up to the plate. Stephen goaled via Froud then Mullett kicked our last two goals one of which he launched from inside the centre square. Vermont victors by 74 points. We are still a game and percentage outside the 5 behind Noble Park whom we play next week. Better players for the half were Millhouse, Stephen, Mullett, Ross, Henley, Cullen and McCarthy.
Goalkickers – Greig 4 with 3 each to Griffiths, Millhouse and Froud with 2 each to Cotchett and Mullett and singles to Henley, Stephen and Rushton.
Best Players – Mullett, Ross, Stephen, Millhouse, Henley, Cotchett, McCarthy and Cullen. (Froud and Greig in the first half).
Possessions – Bardon 31, Mullett and Henley 26, Stephen 24, Cullen 23 and Millhouse 22. Ross had 19 possessions with 10 marks and 36 hit outs. Greig took 11 marks and kicked 4-5 while Froud took 10 marks.
1% - Ross 12, McCarthy 10, Waller and Mendes 9 and Stephen 8.
Coach’s Comments – It was great to get 3 wins today – a massive effort.
