The match against Aquinas was simply one we could not afford to drop as they have been struggling and were 0-8. In fact the VAFA are cutting them some slack and moving them down to North 2 for the 2nd half of the season.
The aim in the first quarter was to seize control of the game and ensure that we were playing well regardless of the quality of the opponent. The centre square combination of Chris Howgate and Daniel Tibaldi set the tone for the day with some slick work to get us on the board early. Daniel Massarotti put our fist 3 goals on the board to kick start a 7 goal quarter. In the 2nd quarter Aquinas’ spirit was still high with a couple of goals but Daniel Di Bartolomeo had a slashing quarter and led the way with our run into the breeze to give us a 6 goal quarter and a 71 point half time lead.
A very pleasing aspect of the 2nd half is that we didn’t take our foot off the pedal and doubled our half time lead. Tom Woodman played his role very well to keep setting up attacking opportunities and Tom Feher was very creative on his wing. Daniel Massarotti remained a dominant influence and finished with 9 goals.
After the match the players and parents enjoyed a terrific lunch with many other club supporters before watching the Seniors put on a great performance.
We are at home against Banyule/Viewbank next week at 2.00pm and would love to have as many supporters as possible there.
Cheers, Pete
