Michael Gallacher is currently in his fifth year of study toward ordination into the priesthood, at Corpus Christi College in Carlton. Earlier this year, Michael was honoured by being chosen to complete his studies at Vatican City, Rome. As such, Michael will be moving to Rome shortly to complete a further 5 years of study at the North American Seminary, Vatican City.
In his time at the club, Michael has been involved in a variety of roles including player, runner, boundary umpire and very vocal supporter! It is fair to say that his abilities as a runner have put other runners in the VAFA to shame, regularly covering more distance than perhaps even the players themselves! This is something Coach Feutrill has benefited from greatly, with far more messages being delivered to players. However, depending on the nature of the message, I am sure there have been times when the players did not necessarily appreciate this!
Many would be unaware that for the past years, Saturday has been Michael’s only day off from the seminary every week. To be out on the ground, rain, hail or shine, running water, running messages, playing, or even a combination of all three across both the senior and reserve games, represents what a true clubman Michael has been.
It was pleasing for the boys to be able to send Michael and fellow last-gamer Michael Baker off with a good win on Saturday. Both players were chaired off the ground to large applause. I am sure all within the Whitefriars Old Collegians Football Club community join together to wish Michael the very best for his future and thank him for his involvement over the years. We look forward to delivering news of further wins and premierships directly to Rome!
Michael Baker will be featured in next week’s issue!
