Under 10's Gold
Round 11 and the U 10 Golds were at a pretty soggy Whalan Reserve to take on Rooty Hill who had 13 players ready to go. With 12 to call from, the Golds were up for the challenge and let them have a sub.
It was a a tight fought struggle in the first round and today was no different.
The game ended up with Rooty Hill taking the honours 44 - 40 but what a great game it was!
Captian James had his usual strong, no nonsense game and had to kick a great long range goal TWICE after the ref picked up a Rooty Hill marking infringement on his first one!
The second quarter was a little costly with Rooty Hill kicking 3 majors to get away with a lead they managed to hold. Coach Zeoana had to remind the team to "get down and contest" which was so important in the wet conditions.
As usual this team didn't disappoint and came out with fresh vigour to claw themselves back into the game. (pardon the pun!)
'Woman of the Match", Abbey didn't mind getting her jersey dirty and said, "come on boys lets get into this game!" Thats what happpened and the last quarter had a good Emu away crowd (thanks Billy for the extra supporters!) all cheering.
Jordan and Shamous led by example and the whole team played with heart against a Rooty Hill team that had plenty of big players going in hard.
In the end we were full of running and if the game went for a little longer the result would have been ours!
Well done Lions you made your supporters proud!!!

The Lions travelled to Tom Hunter Reserve this week for a 1 v 2 clash with the Kangaroos, who were looking to add to their 4 game winning streak. The Lions started well with Lachlan Corbett kicking the only goal in a tough first quarter. Bryden Filce was active in the forward line and he was well supported by Tiarne Kerr and Leon Kaltenbacher. The second quarter was a close contest, but with a goal each to Jake Stevens & Brayden Saint Barry the Lions were able to take a 14 point lead into the half time break.
The third quarter was an opportunity for the Lions to stamp their authority on the game. The Lions backline stood tall and continuously repelled the Kangaroos attack. Jack Noble was moved from centre half back to centre half forward and managed two goals for the quarter, while Brayden chipped in for another one to help take the Lions lead out to 20 points at ¾ time. Brayden kicked his third goal for the game & Bryony Corless put through her first, and although being outscored in the final quarter the Lions were able to come out with a well earned 12 point victory. The much improved James Jackson played most of the game in the back line and made the most of his opportunities with numerous possessions. Jesse Grazotis played another solid game and when moved into the midfield in the third quarter gave the Lions a needed lift out of the centre. Joshua King played an outstanding defensive game and filled an important role for the team. Mitch Andrews & Joel Walsh were consistent all day as usual and repelled the Kangaroos attack numerous times. Brayden continued his good form this week spending the entire game in the ruck and finished with 3 goals for the day.
The Lions played four consistent quarters today with the hard work done at training starting to pay off, with the Lions moving the ball swiftly up the ground and into the forward line. Awards this week went to Bryden Filce & Jesse Grazotis.
Final Scores: Lions 8.5.53 def Kangaroos 6.5.41
Goals: Brayden Saint Barry 3, JackNoble 2, Jake Stevens 1, Bryony Corless 1 Lachlan Corbett 1

The Lions started well this week taking on Camden at Fairfax Reserve. The conditions were pretty good compared to recent weeks with no rain for the day and even a little sunshine. Camden started strongly and threw everything at the Lions in the first quarter but the Lions backline was working overtime restricting the Blues to only 2 goals from their 9 scoring shots. Julian Borg was in great form at full back and received great support from Nathan Milgate, Jeremy Hardy and Hugh Arnold. Pat Pope again dominated the game taking several marks in the backline and restricting the Blues scoring opportunities. Chris Nolan worked hard in the backline and made several important tackles.
The Lions played well defensively in the first half and restricted the Blues to a 34 point lead at half time. The Lions started the second half full of enthusiasm and hope but could not contain the Blues who extended their lead in the second half.
Jeremy Rix worked hard all day and Adrian Boelhouwer continued his great form with another impressive match. Blake Langer and Wil Arnold played well on each wing and provided the important link from defence into attack. Stephen Webb played a great game today and never gave up and kicked one of the Lions few goals for the day. Jake Jeffreys-Brown took on the big guys and helped the Lions in attack. Ben Edwards tried hard, put his body on the line today and copped a knock to the head, spilt some blood for the team and courageously returned to the field to help the Lions.
The Lions tried hard all day, right to the final siren, however they could not match the Blues today.
Awards: Hugh Arnold, Stephen Webb, Jeremy Rix, Blake Langer
Goals: Stephen Webb 1, Adrian Boelhouwer 1

This Top of the table clash was held under cloudy skies on a soggy Harrington Park oval. But first, some important club news…
As you are probably aware, some major earthworks were carried out without approval at Dukes Oval last Thursday. These works, while damaging and need to be fixed for the short and long term, have now impacted on the rest of the season for the Emu Plains Glenmore Park Junior AFL club. We need EVERYONE’S support including ALL readers of this column this Tuesday 30th June to move forward as a club, not only about what we can do about fixing the problem but also how we manage the rest of this season and future seasons. Please come to a PUBLIC MEETING at DUKES OVAL 7pm upstairs in the CLUB HOUSE.
Now the politics is out of the way … The Lions were primed for this clash after being the better team for ¾ of the first round game, although we were without Grant Martin, Tom Noble, and Jordan Campbell while Jackson Swarbrick was suffering on the bench with illness. Tim Wade was pumped for his role between the posts, fired up by some “relative” jeering from the sidelines; while Paul Devlin ran the far touch line to move away from any possible jeering (mind you he left his number one jeerer at home!). Bob Mitchell donned the fluoro-yellow runners shirt to jeer up the boys, while coaches Rix and Stevens jeered themselves up for this game and the next few days with the despicable week they have had (as President and committee member - see above).
The Lions started well with Nick dominating the centre ball with good “fists” forward for our rovers. It wasn’t long before Alex H. sprinted down the far wing to kick a long ball to Dan who scored a point under pressure. Nick and Hayden did some great work from a throw in on our forward wing to kick a ball to Rick who passed to Dan for our first goal. At the other end Sam D. dived “soccer goalie” style to prevent a goal to the Razorbacks. Dylan picked up our second goal after picking up a loose ball near our half forward line. The ball travelled and rolled over 50m to get our second major score. Razorbacks hit back with some lucky bounces and a couple of goals. But the pressure from the Lions continued with Rick bombing long to the goal square with David L. kicking a scrambling goal. The quarter time score showed the Lions had a slender lead 3 – 3 – 21 to 2 – 3 – 15.
The second quarter saw a couple of positional changes as coaches Rix and Stevens managed a three man bench to the Razorbacks five. Two quick goals by the Razorbacks shocked the Lions supporters and the team. But some steadying play in the centre saw a good mark taken by David L at half forward. With his kick falling short of goal, Blake took a sensational mark and subsequent goal to bring us back into the game. Another great centre effort saw the ball go long to Brendan who took a great mark and then passed long to David L. David calmly kicked his 2nd gaol to put the Lions back in front. Rick kicked his first goal of the afternoon by getting his foot to the ball first in another scramble in our forward line. The razorbacks kicked a well constructed goal to stay in the game and go into the half time break a little closer 6 – 3 – 39 to 5 – 4 – 34. The mind games continued with the Razorbacks going into the rooms for the long break while the Lions jeered themselves up on the ground.
The third quarter started strongly for the Lions with another good break and long kick by Alex H. resulting in a point to Michael K. Another 2 points were scored by the Lions in what looked like some missed opportunities, but two goals to Rick who was playing some great footy, settled the game for the Lions. The Razorbacks hit back with a goal but the tide was definitely with the Lions after Dylan’s attempt went just wide. From the subsequent kick out by the Razorbacks, Jackson took a great overhead mark then bombed long to the goal square. Again, Rick managed to get his foot to the ball first in the subsequent scramble to kick his fourth goal. The Lions finished strongly going into the final break 9 – 7 – 61 to 6 – 5 – 41.
This time the Lions broke from the huddle last to start the final quarter, as coaches Rix and Stevens more than matched the Razorbacks “mind games”. After a point to the razorbacks, the play through the centre saw Nick bomb long to the goal square, again with the ball heavy and the ground soft, Rick managed to get his boot to the ball to give him his fifth goal. The Razorbacks hit back with another gaol but the Lions replied with a good snap from Hayden S. The Razorbacks threw everything at the Lions but they were more than matched in many areas around the ground. With the ball going ahead again for the Lions and Michael marking just after the final siren, the game was over with all officials, players and support staff shaking hands in what was a fantastic game of football. Most importantly the Lions had inflicted the Razorbacks first loss, on their home ground no less, with the final score being 11 – 9 – 75 to 7 – 6 – 48. A very satisfying win as we again managed to play 4 quarter football while the Lions club song resonated around the ground. Playing awards were very difficult to determine as nearly all the Lions players had a “personal best” game. Rick and Shaun were great again but Dylan, Alex H. and Alex W. had probably close to their best season games. Nick was the best player in the centre while David in the forwards had a super game. Dan was elusive, while Hayden, Martin and the Devlin boys all had very good games. Krispy Kreme doughnuts will be the “team awards” at training on Wednesday as there weren’t enough certificates to hand out! (This manager will have to find them again for future games)
We look forward to seeing all our supporters at the meeting on Tuesday followed by our next game against another top of the table contender – The Norwest Eagles, at Wrights reserve next Saturday.
