After jumping to a 4 goal lead against Kenmore on Saturday,
the Hornets wasted valuable use of the ball through the midfield and paid a
high price. Coming off a great win last week against Uni, the lads were once
again up against a formidable opponent in Kenmore.
We got off to a terrific start and jumped to a 4 goal lead
early in the first term. This was due to the midfield getting first use of the
ball and with quick hands were able
to consistently get
the ball inside 50.
Kenmore’s backline was under extreme pressure and had we
kicked straighter the margin could have been much greater.
The second term was much the same as the first although
Kenmore did start to lift their intensity and were able to reduce the margin to
1 goal at half time.
The third term started badly with Kenmore having much of the
play for the first 15 minutes but we were inaccurate at goal. Our use of the
ball through midfield was starting to get untidy and we began overusing the
ball.
Too many time we decided to handball instead of kick when
under pressure and when we did get the chance to hit up a leading forward our
kicks went astray.
Kenmore’s onballers
were getting on top with their delivery to their forwards starting to hurt us .
During the last term we struggled to bridge the gap and due
to fatigue we began making poor decisions. The backline led by Brant Bravo were
holding up well and continued to repel the forward moves from Kenmore. Unfortunately,
our mistakes with both hand and foot through the midfield continued to put our
backline under pressure as we turned the ball over time and again.
To the boys credit they played a tough brand of football and
never gave in. We tackle and pressured as good as we have all year and just
failed to finish off the good work with clean possession.
Next week the State Association has a bye and will enjoy a
week to get some injuries. First game
back is against Coloundra and i know the players are keen to make up for our
performance against them last time.
