SENIORS FINAL SCORE
VERMONT 28-19-187 def KNOX 11-7-73
An overcast day, a big ground and great facilities at Knox. In came Michael Stewart and McInerney for Papillo who was injured and Siciliano back at Port Melbourne. Tim Johnson played his first game for the year with the reserves and came through ok.
Skipper Ryan Mullett celebrated his 100th game with a best on ground performance Every player contributed to the win. From second last a few weeks ago we now find ourselves in 6th spot on the ladder.
It was fitting that Mullett kicked the first goal of the match. Knox kicked with the wind but we kicked 5 goals to 3 in the first term. Our tackling was good from the start and it was obvious that we came to play. Other goals came from Stephen, Greig, Griffiths and Froud who goaled on the siren. Froud was at his lively best on the forward line. At ¼ time we led 5-2 to 3-3.
We kicked 8 goals to one in the 2nd quarter. Knox scored first as we booted the next 8. Greig kicked 4 for the term while Cotchett, Mendes, Mullett and Stephen contributed the rest. We had winners all over the ground with Ross again in top form. Better players for the half were – Fyfe, Ross, Cotchett, Cullen, Bardon, Henley, Stephen, McCarthy, Greig, Mullett and Froud. At ½ time we led 13-6 to 4-4.
It was another goal feast with the Eagles kicking 9 goals to 4 in the 3rd term. Froud and Greig kicked another 2 each, McInerney booted 2 with singles to Mullett, Cotchett and Ross. Our backline was terrific all day with Waller getting the job on Adam Slater and keeping him to 2 goals. McCarthy was at his spoiling best while Rushton was mopping up beautifully. Millhouse has found his spot in defence – it will be interesting to see what happens if Davidson comes back. Our on ballers ran Knox ragged. At ¾ time we led 22-11 to 8-5.
Stephen kicked 3 goals in the last quarter to cap off a terrific game. Griffiths, who has been a quiet achiever each week booted his second followed by Froud and Nummy. It was great to see the old team of Froud and Greig combining to kick 11 goals.
It was a huge percentage win by 114 points.

RESERVES FINAL SCORE
KNOX 11-11-77 def VERMONT 6-7-43
It was a promising start early as we were super competitive. Dell’Aquilla and Dressing kicked our goals and in a low scoring term we led 2-1 to 1-0 at the break. We opened with another Dell’Aquilla goal but Knox kicked the next 3 goals to lead at half time by 4-2 to 3-2. Better players for the half were Della’Quilla, Stewart and Henderson.
Kox kicked the first goal after the break but we got back into the game with goals from Dressing and Josh Davis. During the term Fletcher Stewart took 2 terrific marks in defence. Many players came into the game during this period including Whitchell, Dore, Rogneda, Johnson , Bull and Stewart. At ¾ time they led 6-6 to 5-4. We were close enough if good enough.
Knox made a good thing of it with the first 4 goals of the last quarter as we managed only one to go down by 34 points. Tim Johnson returned with a promising 14 possessions, Henderson had 13 with 18 tap outs while Bull had 17 touches with 13 tap outs.
Goalkickers – Dressing and Dell’Aquilla 2 each with singles to Josh Davis and Jones.
Coach’s Best Players – Whitchell, Stewart, Rogneda, Henderson, Fary and Pisano.
Coach’s Comments – They ran a lot harder – we had too many turnovers – we had a crack but our onballers must work harder.
COLTS FINAL SCORE
KNOX 12-8-80 def VERMONT 9-14-68
What an amazing match – Knox kicked 8-2 to 1 behind in the first quarter to absolutely blitz us. After that Vermont kicked 9-13 to 4-6 but it wasn’t enough.
To the boys credit their workrate picked up in the 2nd term but didn’t translate on the score board as we kicked 6 behinds before Checkley goaled with 30 seconds remaining. We held them to 1 behind and trailed 8-3 to 1-7 at the break. Better players for the half were McKernan who was playing an outstanding captain’s game, S.Williams and Geraghty.
Knox came out firing with 3 quick goals and the result looked over but Vermont kicked the next 4 goals through Geraghty, Sonsie and two from Woolard to give us a sniff with the breeze in the last quarter. In the 3rd term we won most of the clearances and McKernan was again outstanding with help from Kealy, Carrados and Humphrey. At ¾ time they led 11-4 to 5-7.
The tide was starting to turn after giving away an 8 goal start. We kicked 4 quick goals through Geraghty, McKernan, Vasbinder and Murphy and looked as if we would storm all over them – but our run ended and Knox sealed it with the last goal of the match. It was a gutsy effort but we cannot give away such a big start.
Goalkickers – 2 eaxh to Woolard and Geraghty with singles to McKernan, Murphy, Vasbinder, Checkley and Sonsie.
Coach’s Best Players – McKernan, Kealy, Castersen, Woolard, Geraghty and Checkley.
Coach’s Comments – Their 8 goals in the first quarter out us under the pump. We have to come with a winning mind set.
