Under 10's Gold
Round 10 saw the U 10 Emu Lions travel to Tom Hunter Park to challenge the Blue Mountains Team.
With a couple players missing and a full compliment of Blue Mountains players ready to go we had to call on three Auskickers, Dallas Trezise, Shane Munaweera and Heath's younger brother, D'Ärcy to make up our numbers. And what a sterling job they did! We were all very impressed with their skills and enthusiasm and they showed what a great crop of Auskickers we have coming through. Thanks Kylie and Rod for letting us borrow the boys.
The game itself was a good open contest with both teams having plenty of scoring opportunities. In the end the Lions finished with 7 goals to the Mountains 3. This was testiment to the fantastic all over the park Lions defence that Coach Zeaona made special mention of after the game.
As always the Lions played the game with a great team spirit and sportsmanship.
Special mention to Mason who as Captain for the day went out in the 2nd quarter and kicked 3 majors!! That's a captains knock!
Also special mention to Heath who played a great game and never stopped running.
Player of Match was much deserved and was awarded to Dallas, yes that right one of our Auskickers playing up! Dallas was most impressive and didn't shy from the ball as well showing he has a good strong kick. Well done Dallas!

This week the Lions were up against a determined Hawkesbury team. There appeared to be a degree of complacency amongst the team prior to the game and this showed during the first quarter with the Lions trailing by 11 points at the break, a margin that could have been even greater if not for the efforts of the reliable Tim Thomas at full back.
A complete change in attitude saw the Lions slowly claw their way back into the game. Bryony Corless came off the bench for the second quarter and had an immediate impact, booting through a lovely goal and causing havoc for the Hawkesbury defence. Another goal to Lachlan Corbett and the gap was reduced to 3 points at half time.
The third quarter was an even one with both teams scoring 2 goals. The Lions goals coming through Jake Stevens and Bryony Corless. Although the scores were tied up at ¾ time, one could sense the Lions were wearing their worthy opponents down. Mitch Andrews was playing another blinder, while Grant Shipley was solid in defence.
Everything finally clicked for the Lions in the final quarter with a string of goals coming through Mitch Andrews, Bryony Corless, Bryden Filce and Jesse Grazotis in what was probably the best quarter of football the team had put together for a number of weeks. The Lions defenders also stood firm in the last quarter, holding Hawkesbury to just the one scoring shot for the quarter. Final scores were Lions 9.9.63 to Hawkesbury 6.6.42.
Krispy Kreme: Mitch Andrews
Dominos: Grant Shipley
Goals: Bryony 3, Bryden 2, Jake 1, Mitch 1, Lachlan 1 & Jesse 1.
Next game is against the form side of the competition at the moment in the Blue Mountains at Tom Hunter Reserve starting at 11:30am on 27th June (please be at the ground by 10:45am). Remember guys, let’s be switched on from the opening bounce.

After having their photos taken for the year book, the U16 Lions ran on to their home ground (Dukes Oval) to face their foes from their first loss of the season – the Norwest Jets. The skies were overcast but with the usual faces in their positions (Tim Wade in goals, Paul Devlin on the boundary, and Bob Miller with the water bottles) things could only be brighter. The Lions without Dylan Slater and Rick Ooms were facing up to the plucky Jets with 17 players including 3 under 14’s. Like last time, the task ahead seemed in favour of the Lions but like last time, it wasn’t easy.
With Mark Myhill playing with the Jets to allow the full 18 on the field, the game started with the Lions chasing the ball. The Jets were well coached and hungry for the ball and after 5 minutes they were ahead 3 goals to nil. The Lions first goal came from David Looyscheider who had worked hard to get his boot to the ball to kick it off the ground between the major sticks! David also kicked the 2nd goal after finishing off some good work started by Tom Noble in defence. The Jets went onto to kick the final couple of goals of the quarter, much to coaches Rix and Stevens frustration, to lead the game 5 – 0 – 30 to 3 – 3 – 21.
The second quarter saw Sam Devlin show some good spirit and go over to play for the Jets. James Devlin kicked the first goal of the quarter after some good lead up work from Alex Wade and Brayden Wilson. Pressure was now being applied regularly by the Lions which led to Ben McGovern’s 1st goal and shortly after his 2nd goal. David picked up his 3rd and 4th goal in the quarter and the Lions went to the long break in-front 8 – 7 – 55 to 8 – 1 – 49.
Both teams seemed to step up a gear in the third quarter in the fight for the ball. The handling was nigh impossible as the drizzly rain that came and went initially finally settled in over the ground. Dan Kelly and Hayden Strong joined the Jets for the quarter. Shaun Stevens saved at least 4 goals in the quarter in the last line of defence. Again, continued pressure gave them only one point at the Jets scoring end while Blake Daenell roved with enthusiasm to snap another goal when the ball was at the Lions end. However, the Jets finished the quarter well to score the last goal to go the final break only one point behind, 10 – 8 to 10 – 7.
The final quarter was shaping as a ‘make or break’ one for the Lions as they have been beaten a number of times in this last 20 minutes. Luke Crebin and Brenden Redcliffe joined the Jets for this final quarter. The first 5 minutes of the quarter was really tight with handling very difficult. After a goal to the Lions after sustained pressure, the team lifted to another level with the last 10 minutes the best football ever for the Lions. Blake made a 3rd and 4th effort to snap a goal to finish with 3 for the game. Ben McGovern kicked a goal from an almost impossible angle against the sideline to finish with three goals as well. Jackson Swarbrick, Grant Martin and Brayden Wilson all scored goals. Even Alex Hocking did some fancy footwork on the goal line to score his first goal of the season. David finished with 6 goals for the game. The real pleasing aspect was the strong physical presence the Lions played on their opposition. The running game of the Lions seemed to lift in this final part with the ground soft and the ball very heavy. The Lions running away scored an awesome victory in the final quarter 17 – 10 – 112 to 10 – 8 – 68. Top players were Jackson Swarbrick and Tom Noble with Grant Martin, David Looyscheider, and Shaun Stevens getting honourable mentions amongst a host of players. We now look forward to an even bigger clash against Razorbacks at their home ground Harrington Park next Saturday. Here’s hoping for fine weather and less colour in the player’s hair!
