Round 9 Match Reports
Division 2
Mac Uni 12.20.92 beat Holroyd-Parramatta Goannas 9.4.58
The Warriors took on a determined Goannas side eager to reverse the Round 1 result. Both teams looked quite different from Round 1 and it was the Warriors who jumped out to a 12 point lead at 1/4 time and if not for some wayward kicking the margin could have been greater.
Dean Connors and Ben Akmens were providing great drive out of the middle and with Tim Scoular & Jerome Farrell at CHB & FB respectively they held their key forwards well.
With our good start in the first quarter we looked to push the margin out in the second and finally kicked a little straighter finishing with 5 goals to the Goanna's 1 goal to lead at halftime by 37 points. Forward Pocket Scotty Cations unfortunately kicked a first half goal that was somehow missed by all scorers (except our goal umpire) and the sneaky forward only finished with 1 for the day instead of 2.
The second half was much like the first quarter for the Warriors with inaccurate kicking of 4 goals 11 behinds ensuring the margin finished at 34 points by games end. The Goannas finished well with 6 goals 2 behinds to ensure the margin did not blow out.
Brett Harland finished the day with 5 good goals and I'm sure could have been more if not for the great sledging coming from the Goanna's boys on the hill. He was supported well by Jason Lyall with 2 goals and Justin Whyte working hard off the Wing finishing with 2 as well.
A good performance from the boys after only having 1 fit player on the bench after half time and we now welcome back Craig Barnes and Hamma Mangal into this weeks side. Vice Captain Stuart Newman made his long awaited return from injury and was only set to play Ressies however after playing 3/4's in Ressies was required to back up again in first grade after a late pullout.
The Warriors now take on Campbelltown at home this Saturday at 2.30pm.

Division 3
Mac Uni 20.18.138 beat Holroyd-Parramatta Goannas 3.6.24
Looking to get back on the winners list after the long-weekend, the 3rd grade boys ventured out to Charles McLaughlin Reserve to take on Holroyd-Parramatta. The weather was a cool 14 degrees and there was a slight Northerly breeze blowing.
Disco, making a welcome return to game-day, opened the scoring with a nice 50-metre goal into that slight breeze. A strong pack mark from Claw in the goal square resulted in our second for the term. To Holroyd-Parramatta’s credit they continued to attack and slotted a couple of majors of their own for the quarter. By the end of the quarter we had etched out an 11 point lead. (4.3 – 27 to 2.4 – 16)
The second quarter saw Mac Uni play more direct football. Disco continued to get plenty of the ball through the centre of the ground. Wazza was rewarded for his position front-and-centre to kick the first goal of the second quarter. Razzle and Abs were getting a heap of possessions on the ball and up forward with both finishing with 3 goals for the day. One of Abs’ coming from a nice grab and dish from Wookie. Goldy too got in on the goal action, getting maximum return from his long run from defence and nice 50-metre roost. The backline was like a rock as Ricey, Hobbo and the rest of the crew repelled all H-P’s attacks. With 6 goals to none in the quarter the Mac Uni boys went to the sheds with a handy 49 point lead.
Looking to build our percentage in the 3rd quarter, Razzle kicked another goal within the first minute after a nice tap from Claw. Lloydie followed this with a goal of his own and we had 2 in as many minutes. Wazza continued to drive the ball forward off the wing enabling Gunns to slot through one of his three goals for the day. With 5 unanswered goals for the quarter the scores were 15.11 to 2.5 at the final change.
The final term saw more of the same with Mac Uni boys continuing to dominate through the centre and the defence holding strong. Butch kick his second for the day and G-Stud and Dunc also got on the goal-kicking list. With plenty of forays forward we finished with a slightly inaccurate 5 goals 7 behinds for the quarter whilst Holroyd-Parramatta kicked 1.1.

Division 4
Mac Uni 20.11.131 beat Holroyd-Parramatta Goannas 9.8.62
Round 9 action saw the boys travel out to Parramatta’s adopted home Charles McLaughlin to take on the Goannas.
The first quarter saw the boys hit the ground running as Nippa goaled within the first minute. From the ensuing centre bounce, Shorty tapped to Julz who put a pinpoint pass onto Stumpy’s chest to give us a two goal break in no time. Another two goals, including one from big John Hobby put us out to a four goal lead after five minutes and it looked like being the start of a big day. The rest of the quarter became a tighter affair however, and a congested forward line affected our efficiency. At the other end the Goannas were able to peg one back to reduce the deficit to 3 goals at quarter time.
The 2nd quarter started similarly to the first, although some inaccurate kicking prevented us from taking full advantage. The Goannas started to apply some scoreboard pressure and all of a sudden the game was turning into a real arm wrestle. From here though, our midfield started to lift as Lukey and Docker got on top in the midfield, and with Stumpy in the rare forward line we were able to kick away to a 34 point half time lead.
The 3rd quarter saw us kick away even further, with Elliot playing the game of his life and Kiwi continuing to apply great pressure down back. Goo and Julz were both putting in through the midfield and a couple of late goals to Lukey were the finishing touches to a great quarter. A 6 goal quarter gave us a comfortable 60 point buffer going at the last change.
The final term saw the game open up as both sides had several scoring opportunities. Stumpy managed to put through another 4 goals to top off a stellar performance that saw him finish with 11 goals. Chappo got involved in the middle and Hobby continued to lead hard in his first game back for a couple of months. An end margin of 69 points perhaps did not reflect our domination in what was a first class performance, with all players showing some real signs of improvements.

U18 Challenge Cup
Mac Uni 10.10.70 beat Holroyd-Parramatta Goannas 9.8.62
Saturday saw us take on the Goannas and after a tight game in round 1 we were out to even the ledger this week. Having numerous injuries and late withdrawals due to sickness we were behind the 8 ball but the boys proved that the Warrior spirit was strong and produced an outstanding effort to win by 8 points.
Starting slowly we did not kick a goal in the 1st quarter and were down by 3 goals at quarter time but the boys dug deep and had 9 scoring shots to 1 in the 2nd term and went into the main break up by 10 points.
Onballers, Frosty, Belly and Pooley were working hard all over the ground and Ben Gray was having his best game for the year down back.
The 3rd quarter saw us kick another 4 goals and the Goannas were not lying down. but with Luke Woodman creating well and Jamie giving us a target up forward we were not going to give in.
The last quarter saw a great tussle with the Warriors having to call on everything they had left in the tank to win by 8 points. Well done boys it was a great team effort and one you should be proud of.
