SENIORS FINAL SCORE
SCORESBY 19-11-125 def VERMONT 15-19-109
A cold overcast day at Vermont Reserve. Webster came in for McInerney who had duties at Box Hill. It was always going to a challenging day after the hype of last week especially in this tight competition. Nummy and Papillo returned after injury in the reserves. Nummy starred with 35 touches while Papillo had 28.
For those with first goal Cotchett obliged. Rushton was up forward and goaled followed by Froud via Rushton. It was a very promising start. Scoresby then kicked the next 5 with 2 goals coming from our bad turnovers. We then responded with the next 3 goals from Stephen, Greig via Mullett then Griffiths. At ¼ time we led 6-3 to 5-0.
Things looked promising in the 2nd quarter when Mullett goaled via Rushton then Cotchett kicked his second. Immediately Scoresby responded with the next two and we led by 5 points. Rushton goaled via Dore then Scoresby kicked two more with one of these coming from another defensive turnover. When Griffiths kicked his second we led at half time by 8 points 10-8 to 9-6.
Better players for the half were Ross, Cullen, Stephen, Bardon, Mullett. Rushton, Mendes and Griffiths.
In the 3rd term Griffiths snapped his third – it was obvious Greig was out of sorts with his timing, Mendes was good at the stoppages as we had plenty of the play but could not convert – we went inside 50 six times to two without a result. Griffiths and Cotchett eventually goaled. More goals from Griffiths and Mullett via Cotchett but Scoresby were still answering the challenge and kicked the last 2 goals before ¾ time. We were not to score a major for the rest of the match. Ross played a lone hand in the ruck but Bird did do a couple of nice things – he certainly is a player of the future.
Although we went inside 50 metres 12-6 in the last quarter Scoresby kicked 4 goals to nil. Our delivery to our forwards was terrible and some experienced players were often caught with the ball trying to do too much. It was a finish reminiscent of Croydon two weeks ago.
Scoresby deserved victors by 16 points. Better players for the half were – Ross, Cotchett, Mendes, Stephen, Griffiths and Mullett.
Goalkickers – Griffiths 5, Cotchett 3, Rushton and Mullett 2 each and singles to Froud, Greig and Stephen.
Best Players – Ross, Stephen, Cotchett, Griffiths, Mullett and Mendes.
Possessions – Bardon 34, Stephen 27, Henley 26, Citchett 26 with Fyfe and Mendes 23 each.
1% - McCarthy 16. Stephen 9, Mullett and Mendes 8 with Bird and Ross 7. Robbie Ross had 46 hit outs along with 16 possessions and 7 marks.
Coach’s Comments – There was hunger in their body language. In the last quarter one team wanted it more. They cheated in the first half but we were unable to punish them. All day they responded.

We eventually got our game going and dominated the last term kicking 6-3 to 2-2. Goals came from Rosewarne and Jones with 2 each and singles to Kater via Dressing and Nummy. Better players for the half were Nummy, Kater, Jones, Tsindos, Bull and Stewart.
Goalkickers – Jones 2, Rosewarne 2 with singles to Kater, Nummy, Dressing, Rogneda and Pisano.
Coach’s Best Players – Nummy, Papillo, Jones, Pisano Bull and M.Smith.
Coach’s Comments – They were the better side infact the best we have played. They were faster, quicker and cleaner. Our last quarter was good as we had more run but the first half was lamentable. We had a lot of play in the 3rd quarter for no reward.
COLTS FINAL SCORE
SCORESBY 19-8-122 def VERMONT 6-12-48
After 2 early misses fir goal Scoresby kicked the only 4 goals for the quarter. Our delivery into the forward line was terrible and Scoresby got 2 of their goals from free kicks. At ¼ time we trailed by 22 points.
We were totally outclassed early in the 2nd term with Scoresby adding another 2 goals. Their forwards were infront and they had more numbers at the ball. At the 10 minut mark Sonsie kicked our first quickly followed by Quon. Then came a huge turning point in the game. We got the centre break Quon almost held a mark infront of goal but dropped it – Scoresby cleared the ball and kicked 4 goals in 4 minutes. It was a 5 goal turnaround. At half time Scoresby led 10-3 to 2-5. Better players for the half were – Sonsie, Geraghty, Humphrey, Huisman, Quon and Murphy.
Scoresby kicked 2 goals to 1 in the 3rd term with our major coming from Castersen. Huisman and Sonsie continued to be prominent.
Scoresby kicked 7-5 to 3-1 in the last quarter. They were too tall. Our goals came from Sonsie via Carrados, Williams and Carrados. Scoresby winners by 74 points. Better players for the half were Humphrey. Sonsie, Huisman, McKernan, Gabrial and Gartland.
Goalkickers – Carrados 2 with singles to Quon, Castersen, S.Williams and Sonsie.
Coach’s Best Players – Humphrey, Gartland, Sonsie, McKernan and Murphy.
Coach’s Comments – We are individuals playing for ourselves. We don’t play team football. We are not going forward if players don’t listen to instructions. I want all of you to analyse your game and present that analysis to me on Monday night.
