8 successive wins - NEW CLUB RECORD
The boys were not only playing for the 4 premiership points, but also had to contend with carrying the weight of knowing that if they managed to win, it would be a new club record. It obviously wasn't a big concern, as Burleigh were played out of the match very early in the game.
Our backline were strong all day, only conceding 5 goals to a dangerous Burleigh forward line.
After some words of encouragement at quarter time from Peter, the midfield started delivering quality ball to the forwards, who effectively kicked Burleigh out of the game before half time. Peter Hay showed his class and kicked his 3 goals during the second term.
The third term was a close struggle, with 4 goals each, however once again we showed our class during the last quarter kicking 5 goals to 1. Boothy was by the far the standout during the final quarter kicking a couple of his 5 for the game.
Overall a great team performance, with standout performances by Owie, BW, Burnser, Stanger, Pedro and Kinga.
This leaves the seniors 1 win off top spot on the ladder, and with a top of the table clash next weekend down at Palmy, we have the chance to be on top heading into the last few rounds.
The 2s also had a solid 11 goal win over a Burleigh team that beat us by 200 points last year. Goals were shared around between Zane, Thomo, Wombat, Declan, and Wulfy. Declan Macgill, Thomo, Matty Peters, Wulfy, Callum and Matty Toohey were judged the top 6 of a very even team performance.
The wins cements the 2s into the top 5, and with our continued improvement we will be a real force to be reckoned with come finals.
The thirds had a very hard away game with Pomona, who by all reports have recruited well this season. Unfortunately we couldn't match it with them, and battled hard to go down by 11 goals.
Despite the heavy loss, we are still in the top 4 and will be playing finals.
