We
fronted up at Aspley this week in what posed a real danger game for us with 10
of our regular team out with representative commitments.
After
a disrupted week with rain, we were confronted once again with a wet track
after a large downpour on Sunday morning. Ball handling was not going to be
easy.
Caleb
took over the captaincy role this week while Perko was absent with rep
commitments. We ran with the wind in the first quarter and started well with
Liam winning the ruck contests and Cal, Caleb and Paddy moving the ball quickly
into our forward line. Zane in a forward pocket provided a real handful for the
Ferny Grove defence and had three goals to his name by quarter time.
Our
backline performed superbly during the first half restricting Ferny Grove to
one goal in the second quarter. Our small forwards were again in the action
adding another two goals to halftime to build a healthy lead.
We
again dominated the third quarter with Matt and Sam providing some good run off
the wings and feeding our forward line. Watto showed some fancy footwork to
slot a nice goal and we added another couple to Ferny Grove’s two for the
quarter.
That
was to be Ferny’s last score for the game as we dominated possession in the
final quarter. Zac took a nice mark near the boundary and wheeled round to snap
truly after some good lead up work from Sam. Broughy had a good last quarter
turning defence into attack on many occasions from centre half back and Browny showed
some nice work to kick his second goal of the game in the final quarter.
This
was an extremely pleasing result and shows the great depth of talent we have
running around in the U12 ranks. A huge thank you to all the boys who stepped
up this week after playing in earlier games:- Zane Kent, Liam Broad, Paddy
Podbury, Daniel Fischle, Lachie Nicholls, Lachie Braunlein, Andrew Parkinson,
Jackson Zande, Kyle Mead and Sam Clark. You all provided valuable contributions
to a great team result.
Goals:- Zane Kent 5, Nathan Brown 2, Zac Clark
2, Nathan Watts 1
