We hosted Kalangadoo before the Interleague game and came away with mixed results.
The Juniors had a big win with James Barclay, Mason Bunt and Tyler Snook featuring in the best players again. It was great to see a few of the Senior players get to the ground early and take an interest in these boys. It was also impressive to see some of these boys step up to senior colts to help with the numbers. Awards: Ducky’s Surf: Mason Bunt, Peter Walters: Tyler Snook, Gary Nilsson: James Barclay, HFC Ladies: Sam Telfer, Sport & Rec Steak: Joseph Brooks
After a couple of weeks of below par performances both on Saturdays and on the training track our Senior Colts had a red hot go in their match against Kalangadoo. With a committed effort like that, despite it being a loss, the players not only can feel better about themselves, but also the coach, runner, manager etc feel good about being part of the team. Saturday’s effort shows that there is the potential for improvement and it is now really up to the players to accept the challenge and train hard and continue with a positive attitude. Awards: Seebohms Sports: Jaeson Simon, Garry Nilsson: Ethan Sutherland, KAOS Video: Tom Schulz, John Cavanagh: Michael Ogilvie, HFC Ladies: Stephen Ogilvie, Sport & Rec Steak: John Thorpe
The Reserves have snuck across the line after the siren on more than one occasion this season but ended with a draw this week. There was a flock of moths in the change rooms prior to the game when a few players got their gear out of the mothballs. Nigel Brown made a welcome return booting 4 and recent retiree & reserves coach Aaron Leopold booted 1. Marko Gray managed to keep on the pine for most of the game and probably wishes he'd stayed there until the final siren. Awards: Beaurepaires: Matt Nettle, Millicent 4WD Systems: Shane Lambert, Dave's Panel & Paint: Nigel Brown, Beachport Hotel: Justin Winter, Grand Hotel: Luke Vearing.
Our Seniors were undermanned (as you can see by the names in the Reserves notes), yet the players that took the field put in. We came back at them in the last quarter but it wasn’t enough. Sneathy played another great game with 2 goals and Beggsy “chipped” in with 4. Awards: Tony Egan’s: Matt Bowman, Somerset Hotel: Brett Sneath, Beachport Hotel: Simon Beggs and Bompas: Luke Haines.
Calcutta: 1st Brett Sneath and Matt Bowman, 3rd Darren Paul
Don’t forget the Billy Brownless Sportsman’s Night (July 28th) tickets will go on sale later this month. They will be $30 / person which includes a 2 course meal. There will be no issuing or reserving of tickets. Tickets available strictly only on payment. Stay tuned for details on where to get your tickets.
A big reminder to all our supporters that when contemplating a new electrical or furniture purchase, have a look in at Radio Rentals and mention the club when making your purchase. This simple gesture could help get us over the line to once again win a valuable prize that will help the clubs coffers!
As a club we are fortunate to have many very supportive sponsors. As supporters of Hatherleigh try to support our sponsors whenever you can. This week our valued "corporate" sponsors are Amcor Cartons, Argyle Livestock, Chay and Merrett Livestock, Bompas and Bankhouse Quilts (who only stocks blue and gold ribbons!)
Thursday 28th May 100's Club winner was Paul Hamilton with Ian Featherstone taking home two and half cartons of beer for having his number read out and actually being there on a Thursday night.
A huge thank you to all volunteers who gave up part of their footy free weekend to help out with gates, catering and selling of raffle tickets at the Interleague last week.
