The Western Jets have returned to the winners list with a comfortable 54 point win over the Calder Cannons.
The Jets got off to a good start and were able to maintain it throughout the first quarter. Chris Aloi got the ball rolling and had plenty of teammates to help him out. If it weren’t for inaccurate kicking (3.4) then the Jets lead of 19 points may have been larger at the first change.
The Cannons regrouped in the second quarter and despite an early Jets goal, kicked a couple on the trot to get the momentum back their way and start to put the pressure back on the Jets players. The Jets though remained composed and weathered what Calder threw at them, and again kicked away in the latter part of the quarter. At half time the margin was 33 points.
The third quarter was vital if the Jets were to maintain their ascendancy and push for their second win of the year. Through Sean Tighe in the ruck and Chris Aloi getting dangerous in the forward line the Jets were able to produce their best quarter of the season kicking 7.3 to the cannons 2.2 and take a 64 point lead into the last quarter.
The final quarter was fairly even with the game already over. The Cannons were able to convert more of their opportunities kicking 2.3 to 5 points and reducing the final margin to 54 points.
The Jets have a week off over the long weekend and their next mach is against the Dandenong Stingrays on Saturday the 13 June at 2pm at Burbank Oval.
