The Olinda Ferny Creek Football Netball Club was rocked over the weekend with the news that Michael Wilson, current player and one of our most loved characters around our club, had passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning in a tragic house fire.
"Willo" was just 22 years of age and had played 25 Senior Games with the club and was one of our most loved because of his magic, smiling face and his fantastic and warm nature. Somewhat of an irony given his his nature on the football field was to be strong and hard at the ball and having a fierce desire to never lose a contest under any circumstances. He was an integral part of our club in all facets, football as well as our social side.
The cohesion of all our players on Saturday at Emerald was something I'll never forget. Many players, including team mates for that day arriving at the ground to be told the news for the first time. For all football teams to win under these circumstances was a true test of character against very good opposition and our players, committee and all supporters are to be commended for "ALL" efforts over the day.
President, Peter Hayne's ability to face the Channel 7 camera's, again under trying circumstances, was exceptional and is to be highly commended. Peter summed up perfectly what our feelings were towards Michael and the massive hole his passing will leave for us.
The challenge over the next few weeks and months is for all of us to rally around all family and friends and stick together. This is something this club is renowned for and is one of our strengths. I would expect nothing less from all our community !
Michael Wilson will be terribly missed, we offer our Deepest Sympathy to all of the Wilson family and to all those who called him a friend. The club will be setting up a trust account immediately with the new Olinda/Mt.Dandenong Bendigo Bank branch. We hope to raise funds to assist the Wilson family in anyway we can. (Please watch the website for further details)
RIP Willo, we love you mate !
