On Sunday May 31 Wildbrook Wines Park will come to life with perhaps the biggest home game of the year when the Tradelink Western Magpies host the Brisbane Lions Reserves at 2PM in a big day of top flight footy. The day kicks of with the U/18's at 9.15am taking on Caloundra in a must win match for the young Magpies followed by the Reserves match at 11.15am which will feature a rematch of two sides that fought out a great contest just a few weeks ago with Aspley winning by two points. The Magpies will be looking for revenge.
In the main game at 2pm the Tradelink Wesetern Magpies take on the Brisbane Lions Reserves as the Magpies desperately search for their first win of the season. Two more youngsters are likely to make their QAFL debut against the Lions with James Pennycuick and Drew Mitchell named in the 25 man squad. CHF Josh Barton has shown great signs in recent weeks and will need to produce again if the Magpies are to have any chance, State U/21 squad member Ben Heffernan-Roper continues to be the form player with a touch of class for the Magpies and he will be keen to stand up and stake his claim for a Queensland jumper while Richard Wenham continues to grow in confidence at the level. Sunshine Coast youngster Jack Parkes was one of the Magpies best last week in Alice Springs and is realy blossoming at QAFL level but needs some of his senior teammates to do the same.
The Magpies can take a bit from their loss to the Lions in their trial match earlier this year at the GABBA against a line up chock full of listed players which saw the Magpies compete very well for three quarters but were blown away in the third quarter. The Magpies will know that they are a much different prospect at home and the Lions depth of listed players will not be so great this time around.
This weeks line up is attached.
