SENIORS FINAL SCORE
CROYDON 17-18-120 def VERMONT 9-11-65
Another defeat has resulted in last place on the ladder â how long since this has happened after 5 rounds. A strong wind at Croydon favouring the northern goal. Travis Bird in for his first game with Griffiths back from the reserves. Henderson lost his spot while Webster was unavailable. Despite having the breeze in the first quarter Croydon kicked the first goal. We eventually got our game going and goals from Greig, Millhouse then Greig again and the start was promising. A special mention to those involved in the build up to those goals â Stephen, Fyfe. McInerney and Mullett.
Ross and Rushton were also starring. Croydon kicked 2 quick goals from clean centre breaks. Before the siren Froud dribbled one through but we trailed at ¼ time 4-5 to 4-3.
They kicked 3-5 to 2 behinds with the wind in the 2nd term. We kept turning the ball over. The only highlight was a smother by Stephen. At half time they led 7-10 to 4-5.
Better players for the half were â Ross, Stephen, Rushton, Cullen, Henley and Greig for his efforts in the 1st term.
We played our best football for the match with the wind in the 3rd quarter. Croydon kicked the first goal to double our score. After that we had plenty of the play. When Greig was crunched and Millhouse goaled this sparked the team. Griffiths who was playing at centre half forward kicked 2 quick goals via Dore and Cotchett we were getting back into the game. Ross was playing a lone hand in the ruck and around the ground. Greig goaled via Mendes. Croydon got one against the trend then Froud goaled after a wonderful Ross mark. Cotchett missed from close in - that would have given us the lead at ¾ time. At ¾ time they led 9-11 to 9-10.
It was a last quarter that we would like to forget with Croydon piling on 8-8 to 1 behind.
Better players for the half were â Ross, Cullen, Mendes and Morse in the 3rd term.
Goalkickers â Greig 3, Froud 2, Millhouse 2 and Griffiths 2.
Best Players â Ross played an outstanding game, Rushton, Stephen, Cullen, Bardon and Mendes.
Possessions â Bardon 25, Rushton and Fyfe 24, Cullen and Stewart 21, Stephen 20 and Ross 19.
1% - McCarthy 18, Mendes, Stephen and McInerney 8 with Cotchett and Fyfe 7 each.
Ross took 7 marks and 31 hit outs.
Coachâs Comments â They were the best team on the day. There will be no witch hunting or finger pointing. The season is still alive. We cannot put 4 quarters together and next week represents a massive challenge (Balwyn at home).

We kicked 6 goals to 3 in the 1st term. Croydonâs goals came from our poor defensive options. Our goals came from Sonsie, Quon. Murphy, McKernan, Kealy and Geraghty. It was clear early that McKernan was in for a big day.
We kicked 3 goals to 1 in the 2nd term with Carrodus dominating the ruck. McKernan had another good quarter. Goals came from Geraghty, Yousef and Checkley. At half time we led 9-5 to 4-1.
It was a low scoring 3rd quarter â another defensive error let Croydon in for the fiest goal of the term. It took 8 minutes before McKernan goaled. Huisman who had a quiet 1st half by his standards took the game apart in the 2nd half and especially in the last quarter. Yousef kicked his second. At ¾ time we led 11-7 to 5-2.
We crushed them in the last term kicking 8-11 to 1-1. Huisman gathered 12 possessions in the quarter and was instrumental in 3 goals. It was a goal feast with Yousef kicking another 2. The best goal came from Humphrey â his checkside kick was terrific. Geraghty continued his good recent form while late goals came from Colosanti, Barry-Murphy, Murphy, Rosewarne and McKernan. Vermont winners by 94 points.
Goalkickers â Yousef 4, McKernan 3, Murphy 2, Geraghty 2 and singles to Humphrey, Quon, Barry Murphy, Checkley, Kealy, Colosanti, Sonsie and Rosewarne.
Coachâs Best Players â Carrodus, McKernan, Geraghty, Johnson, Gartland and Rosewarne and Huisman for his 2nd half.
