At 2pm this Saturday at the Box Hill City Oval the North Ballarat Rebels will battle it out with the Eastern Rangers in round 7 of the TAC Cup competition.
Both sides have started the season off well with only one loss each. The Rebels have been in great form over the last four weeks and haven't looked back after losing to Murray Bushrangers in round 1. Eastern Rangers are coming off a 40 point loss last week to Dandenong Stingrays which was their first loss for the year.
Both sides will have to cover some key playmakers this week due to the unavailability of some players due to this weekend's Vic Country/Vic Metro Trial games in preparation to opening round of the NAB AFL National U18 Championships between Vic Country and Vic Metro on the 31st of May at Skilled Stadium.
The Rebels have been fortunate to have 7 players selected in the Vic Country Squad which is an outstanding result for football in Western Victoria.
Ben Peters (Ballarat Swans), Josh Cowan (Daylesford), Jandre Slabbert (Hamilton), Andrew Hooper (Golden Point), Oliver Tate (North Ballarat JFC), David Astbury (Tatyoon) and Lucas Cook (Ballarat & Clarendon College) have been selected in the squad for the trial game at Victoria Park on Sunday.
While the Rebels may lose some key personal for this weekend's clash they will welcome back Kurt Aylett (Ballarat & Clarendon College) will return after a week at local footy, Jake Dunne (East Point) will return after getting concussed last week during St Patrick's College's Herald Sun Shield game, Chris Giamoaolo (Horsham Demons) will play his first game for the season after a long term thigh injury, Jake Garvey (Ballarat Swans) after also suffering a knee injury, Chris Harry (East Point) will make his debut for the Rebels on the weekend. Nathan Kelly (Horsham Demons), Lachlan Edwards (Maryborough), Jordan Alexander (Daylesford), Callum Currie (Casterton) have also been put on an extended interchange and are a chance to make their Rebels debut. Tom McDonald (Edenhope/Apsley) is another player that has been named on the possible interchange bench.
