EAST RINGWOOD 12-16-88 def VERMONT 12-14-86
A day when we lost all 3 matches by a total margin of 16 points. In the seniors Henley returned for his first game since 2007, Webster played his first game of the year and Shane Fyfe after one game in the reserves stepped up into the senior side. Out were McLure (inj) while Bordin and Griffiths dropped back to the seconds.
We were completely outplayed for 3 quarters. A low scoring first term with both teams kicking 4 behinds before ER scored. Our first goal came from Stephen after 22 minutes. At ¼ time ER led 2-5 to 1-4.
Two goals each early in the 2nd quarter with Cotchett goaling via Bardon then Stephen on the run. Henley was getting plenty of touches, Stephen was having a good day and Ross was killing them in the ruck. ER then kicked 4 unanswered goals to set up a 25 point lead. Bardon kicked a late one via Webster. At half time ER led 8-7 to 4-5.
Henley had 18 possessions in the half with 7 rusty turnovers, Stephen 15 and Cotchett 11. Ross, Bardon, Mullett and Rushton were among our first half best.
ER kicked 3-5 to 1-1 in the 3rd quarter to build a match winning lead. Our goal came from Stephen while Ross and Rushton tried hard. At ¾ time ER led by 42 points.
At the break David Banfield told the players he had seen them come from this position before. The players certainly responded. Bardon got the first clearnce from Ross and all of a sudden the tempo lifted. A couple of behinds before Millhouse goaled. Henley kicked a long goal but ER immediately replied to steady their ship. Greig kicked a lovely long goal and when McInerney kicked 2 then Mendes goaled it was a 9 point ball game. Froud goaled via Greig then Rushton took a most courageous mark in defence. With seconds to go Stewart had a snap from close range but missed. ER hung on by 2 points after we kicked 7-8 to 1-4 in the last term.

Coaches Comments They touched us up for 3 quarters. In the last quarter we switched on and we had more ground contests in the last term than for the previous 3 quarters. Our half forward line got smashed. The work rate of our onballers was terrific. I haven't given up on 2009.

It was the senior match all over again 39 points behind at ÃÂþ time and kicking 6-3 to 2 behinds in the last quarter.
Ryan kicked our first then ER kicked the next 3. We lost Debney with a knee injury. Bull was a shining light on the backline. At 1/4 time ER led by 15 points.
ER kicked 3 goals to 2 in the 2nd term. Ryan added 2 more goals one a checkside gem then the next via Stewart. Travis Bird was fantastic in the ruck while Griffiths was solid in defence. At ½ time ER led 6-6 to 3-3.
ER added 6 goals to 3 in the 3rd quarter which included the last three. Our goals came from Kater, Conroy and Dressing. At ÃÂþ time ER led 12-8 to 6-5.
It was all the Eagles in the last term as they stormed home. Goals to Bull then Stewart via McDonald and the game was alive. McDonald was terrific during this time. Ryan snapped his 4th then Bright added 2 more both via Griffiths. Time ran out and ER won by 2 points. First gamer Lee Alexander showed good promise in his first game for 8 years. He was a former Vermont colts player.

Coaches Comments " The last quarter showed what you are capable off. We ran and took risks We had heaps in our legs and we gave tem too much start but massive positives came out of the game.
COLTS FINAL SCORE
EAST RINGWOOD 10-13-73 def VERMONT 9-7-61
The colts had to contend with rain and a very slippery ball. We kicked the first 2 goals with Humphrey via Huisman then Murphy. McKernan was good in defence in the early part of the quarter. ER kicked the next 3 to lead at 1/4ime 3-3 to 2-3.
The same story in the 2nd quarter - we kicked the first 2 goals. Humphrey kicked his second then Yousef via Barry-Humphrey. Then after leading ER kicked the next two to lead at ½ time by 5 points.
We kicked 5 goals to 3 in the 3rd term. It was goal for goal early with McCauley giving us the lead. ER goaled them Romas snapped a beauty but sloppy defence saw ER score again. ER were much cleaner up forward. Quon kicked 2 goals via Humphrey then Barry-Murphy. When Murphy goaled after strong work in the pacj by Geraghty we were leading by 4 points at 3/4 time 9-5 to 8-7. The last quarter was an arm wrestle . The tackling by both teams was terrific but ER eventually goaled after 10 minutes. ER finished the stronger adding 3 behinds before delivering the final blow to take their lead to 12 points. They kicked 2-6 to 0-2.

CoachâÃÂÃÂComments âÃÂàWhen they lifted the intensity we didnâÃÂÃÂt go with it. Our structures fell down and there was no gut running at the end. We have to work harder under pressure.
