When I first saw Dobby play I observed that he had great skills, has a natural ability to read the play and thus get plenty of possessions, and that he linked up well with team mates to drive the Tigers forward. It has only been as time has progressed that I have noticed all the hard work he does around the packs and against Coolangatta he threw his body in all over the place and copped plenty of knocks as he help the boys gain that important early ascendancy against the Blues.
Dobby is from Echuca down in Vic and played with the Lockington club through his junior years. Over the years he has collected three Best & fairests, One League B&F and also played for Vic Country against Western Australia and yet he would toss all these away to hold up a Premiership Cup especially since he has played in a losing Grand Final.
Like many young men, Dobby wanted to try a different place and test out his footy so he joined East Perth in the WAFL and managed 7 League games and also took home the Reserves B&F. Don't worry, this is a great achievement for a young bloke from country Victoria and I am sure he will look back on this with pride.
After a year back home his girlfriend - now fiancee & in October Wife - Lynsey and Dobby still craved some travel and a great lifestyle (and probably a winter with temps over 5 degrees) and so it was up tools and now he lives in Coolum and has a kick for Noosa.
Working as a chippy on project work down Beerwah way, Dobby is currently doing form work on a train station and we hope that he has great security and has plenty of work ahead in these difficult times.
Other than footy, Dobby used to hop on his ski's or wake board on the Murray and rely on horse power to power him along. At Coolum it is obviously wave power and whilst he has "L" Plates in the surfing stakes, he enjoys learning a board. A bit of Golf (the courses along the Murray are great even in a dry summer) also gets our talented mid fielder out for a walk on occasions.
Michael Dobson is a real good bloke at a wonderful stage in his life where he has a good job, good mates, an exciting wedding and married life ahead, as well as some unfinished footy business that if all ends happily ever after will see him with a Premiership Medal around his neck sometime in the future.
Lets hope its at Tigerland and sooner rather than later
