The Swans travelled to Byron with a large support base as the team gave there supporters something to cheer about. The Swans played an exciting style of football putting Byron under constant pressure only to have the game ripped away from them in the final moments. The Swans looked strong however many injuries in the final quarter meant no bench to rotate as the boys fought it out to the end.
The Magpies got some lucky bounces early to kick away to a 20 point lead by midway through the first quarter however the Swans put pressure on the Magpie defence forcing loss of possession of the football and Swans goals. Lismore went into the first break down by 5 points kicking 3.3 to 4.2.
The Swans put up a tremendous second quarter as they lifted the intensity and work rate keeping Byron goalless for the quarter while kicking 5 goals of there own to run away to a 25 point lead at the main break. Lismore 8.6 to 4.5.
Lismore allowed Byron to get back into the game in the third with a few lapses in consentration allowing some players to run loose. Lismore held on to a 5 point lead going into the final break. 10.11 to 10.6.
Inaccuracy continued to hurt the Swans as they kicked 10 behinds in the second half. The Magpies hit the fron however the Swans worked there way back in front by kicking behinds before Molesy kicked a ripper to put the Swans up by 9 points with minutes to go. A couple of errors in the backline allowed Byron 2 late goals to defeat the Swans by 4 points. Lismore 12.16-88 to Byron 14.8-92.
All in all a terrific performance by all Swannies, obviously a little disapointing to come away with the points however its only round 2, a few things to work on and we will have a very good season.
Best on the day were Daniel Moloney, Angus Legoe, Phil Tsourlinis, Eddie Burton, Shaun Wadwell
Goal Kickers 3 to David Woon, 2 each to Daniel Moloney and Jake Ryan and singles to Shaun Wadwell, Josh Mapstone, Wesley Seewald, Jarrod Kelly, and Jason Bevan.
A week off to recoup then we host our first home game of the season against Ballina.
