As we stop to remember those Australians who are still serving in theatres of conflict around the world and we remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for this great country, what does Anzac day mean for you?
Since the inception of this great country as a federation in 1901, some 100,000 of our country men and women have died to make this southern land the prosperous country it is today.
The Umpires Association will be wearing black arm bands today (26 April 2009) in remembrance of those fine Australians who gave their lives for their country.
We are proud, like the rest of the football community to be able to have the opportunity to show our respect for those who lost their lives in theatres of war over the last 94 years.
We would also encourage Australians to give to the 'Raise a Glass' appeal being run by Legacy and the Returned Services League to help families of veterans. To make a contribution to this worthy appeal, please visit: www.raiseaglass.com.au
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."
