The Gold Coast gave the Western Jets a big touch up at Burbank Oval on the weekend to the tune of 134 points.
The Jets started well kicking the first two goals, both coming from their big men up forward in Halloran and Ball. But the team which is set to become the next franchise to enter the AFL clicked into gear after that. The Gold Coast slammed on the next 7 goals to race out to a 27 point lead at the first change.
Western was able to stem the flow in the second quarter and turned the game into a bit of a struggle. There were some encouraging signs for the Jets in the second quarter and the margin was still just under 5 goals at the main break.
The second half though was all Gold Coast they slammed on a massive 18.4 to 1.1 after to give the Jets one of their biggest thrashings ever. 134 points was the final margin and the Gold Coast had sent a message to the competition that they may be a force in 2009.
An encouraging sign for the Jets was the return of Scott Sherlock from a shoulder reconstruction. He was the Jets best player collecting 23 possessions in his comeback game.
