Sadly our Seniors were jumped from the first bounce and a well drilled Sandgate led 6.2 to 3.2 by quarter time and by 5 goals at the half.
After weeks (including practice matches) of dominating possession and being able to run forward with confidence, the boys were in quite a different boat this week and played catch up football all day.
A lack of a dominant forward was demonstrated in that we had 9 different goal kickers and only Jay Reynolds, Boothy and Luke Tyrell troubled the scorer twice.
Having said all that, I always think you learn more about team mates and people at footy clubs when you lose than when you win and 95% of the boys were constructive and positive.
Supporters can be sure that these guys have great character and given that they didnt chuck it in but scored 5.7 to 0.2 in the last 1/4 we can at least take that positive away from round 3.
Our Captain Bova again led well, Jay Reynolds was amongst it, Cubby had a crack all day, Will Troedel had some strong moments, Rizza competed all day and was dominant on the ball in the last 1/4, Jack Troedel picked up the pace by games end, and even guys like Trompfy who didnt have big days, chased and harassed with passion

Our Tiger Reserves started the first 1/4 like bulls out of the gate leading 7.2 to 1.0 at 1/4 time with skipper Nathan McKenzie, Brendan Clohesy and our new midfielder all dominant whilst Dane Gale, Mick Gafa and Sam McCosh providing targets up forward.
Getting a good start was always going to be vital as with 10 players coming into the squad - and not all in prime match practice condition - we would always be up against it in a nail biter
Fortunately the boys worked as hard as they could and kicked 4 goals to 5 in the second half to run out 18 point winners
Nackers really was great and Damian C was everywhere whilst Stuey Burns showed what having a real crack is all about. Luke Theo retuned and worked hard in ruck and Justin Baxter who really has come on in recent weeks, Steve Cassimaty and the sweepers Chayse and Justin Claney (until his Europeon oddessy sapped him) showed how a rebounding defence operates.
Full marks to Leachy, Nick Hoekstra and Max Paterson who whilst young, are starting to realise that they are an important part of the team.
