This Saturday April 18 at 2pm the Tradelink Western Magpies will take on Labrador at Cooke-Murphy Oval in a desperate battle for four Premiership points. The Magpies outfit will be strengthened by the return of key forward David Hamill and experienced midfielder Tom Power following injuries sustained in the trial match against Aspley almost six weeks ago and two exciting debut's.
Matt Thompson affectionately known as Clock to his mates will make his QAFL debut which would in other circumstances be nothing out of the ordinary apart from the fact that he is missing his right arm below the elbow and to play at this level is an outstanding achievement and should give the Magpies forward line a boost winning his promotion on the back of a five goal performance in the Reserves against Redland.
The other debut will be made by Zaine Pringle who is an absolute bolter with the Magpies Coach Paul Grentell and newly appointed Chairman of Selectors the very experienced Warren Vines looking to find an X factor for the Magpies line up with speed, skill and unpredictability and Pringle has all three. Those who cast a keen eye over the U/18 State Development Championships will remember the mid air bycicle kick that Pringle used to score an outstanding goal against the Suncoast Power at Zillmere and the 18 year old will join other young guns Ben Jenke-Cain and Jack Parkes who both made outstanding debuts in Round 1 with Jenke-Cain winning the coveted BG award.
Overall the Magpies look much stronger than the team that battled hard against Redland two weeks ago but looked somewhat nervous at the level and a combination of the inclusions and a the whole playing group being more settled and better for that first run should see the Magpies get the four points.
