Highett is pleased to report that Senior Coach Steve Wright is staying with us with strong goals in mind for season 2009, following our move to Division 2. We believe our recruiting will see us in good stead and look forward to the opportunity of meeting new opponents.
We welcome the appointment of Joel Ferguson from Old Trinity as senior assistant coach and Barry Wood as the inauguration coach of HFC Colts. Congratulations go to Matt Cairns for stepping up to coach the Reserves and to Leigh Mead, his assistant. Both are players at the club, as are MSJFL coaches Jay Valencic U16's and Mitch Elms U15's . Highett has nine junior sides and have already registered more than 80 Auskick kids. It is great to witness the club morphing into a single strengthened entity. Everyone is excited about the new season under a capable committee lead by President Roslyn Flett, Secretary Robyn Cochrane and Treasurer Doug Gandy and MSJFL President Martin Burke.
Senior and Reserves players news reports that Jason Mead is rejoining the club after a short sojourn and Brad Sheers returns from Sky. Others signing up include Stuart Saville, Kevin Rowbottom, Kris Stasek, Smithers brothers Toby
& Ben, Engin Kalar and Clinton Jarrett.
The Club lost Life Member and former Captain Matt Sheahan to retirement last season and were saddened to clear him to Springvale, along with Paul Polgar and Gareth Jones this year. Junior gun, Tom Brown is also a loss we
feel, however he may one day return. He is currently nursing a broken collar bone and we wish him well in his recovery. David Cooper, Johnny Wareham, Tomas Bray , and Tim Ryan have also moved on, however their contributions were appreciated and they will be remembered.
Our number one oval is the only down side at this time, but we are working in conjunction with the City of Kingston to improve the situation and have the option of playing on the second oval if necessary.
Sponsors and business partners are being very supportive in the tough times we all find ourselves in and our appreciation cannot be emphasised enough. There is always room for more, and donations need not be large. This is the year of team work were every little bit helps and the Doggies want to keep barking for a long time yet.
Now to the immediate task - GO DOGGIES!!!!!
