The former Geelong VFL player will run out with Newtown & Chilwell for the first time this afternoon when the Eagles travel to Lara to complete the opening round of the GFL season.
Cook was famously forced to sit out last season because of a clearance dispute between the Eagles and SANFL club Glenelg over a transfer fee.
However, Cook is now free to take to the field for the Eagles and said he was relieved the saga was behind him.
"It was frustrating for me, frustrating for the club and it's something that I'm glad I can now put behind me and move forward with my career," Cook said.
"I feel like a 12-year-old about to run out for his first game."
The 27-year-old said he has not played a match for almost two years. He played five games for Glenelg in 2007, his last appearance saw him suffer a serious shoulder injury which required a reconstruction.
Cook said he found it tough watching his new teammates from the sidelines last season.
"I'd go to the games and watch the boys, but my mind was elsewhere," Cook said.
The Eagles have enjoyed a productive pre-season recruiting campaign and will unveil several new faces at the Snake Pit this afternoon.
Adam Jago has crossed over from Geelong West-St Peter's while former Geelong Falcon Chris Moreland (Bell Post Hill) and Leigh Morrison (Newcomb) are making the step up to GFL.
David McVilly is back after a year overseas while recruits include former Norwood player Hamish Tamblin, ex-Geelong Falcon Matt McVilly, who spent last year with North Ballarat, and 2005 Hampden football league best and fairest Ben Kilday.
"We've floated under the radar a bit over the pre-season and it might take us a couple of games to gel together," Cook said.
"We've had a couple of good hit-outs over the pre-season and if we can stay injury free, and with the recruits we've got, we'll definitely be pushing for a finals berth.â
