Following an emergency meeting of the Maryborough Castlemaine District FNL Executive this morning, the league wish to advise of further amendments to the MCDFNL scheduled Round 1 fixtures.
The MCDFNL wishes to express its appreciation and patience with all stakeholders (Clubs, officials, players & media) as we try and revise the MCDFNL fixture to accommodate all changes since the tragic passing of former Maryborough Rovers FNC player Carl Lawrence.
The MCDFNL supported the view that the Maryborough Rovers FNC should be excused from their original Rd 1 fixture against Dunolly FNC (which was to be held next Friday night 17th April) to allow their players and club members to attend the funeral of Carl Lawrence and to allow a suitable period for grieving. The MCDFNL therefore determined that the Maryborough Rovers FNC should be fixtured with a Bye in Round 1.
The MCDFNL will also mindful of ensuring that the Dunolly FNC retained a Friday night fixture in Round 1 in appreciation of their efforts for supporting the Season Launch.
After discussing the original plans to reverse Rounds 1 and Round 9 with the Trentham FC late yesterday it became evident that due to the geographical realities faced by Trentham FC and their players and the potential requirement to ask a large number of players to travel from Melbourne and the outer suburbs to Maryborough for a night game on a business/work day that they may be unable to field 2 senior sides. This was a situation the Trentham FC and the MCDFNL were keen to avoid and therefore this proposed change has now been discounted.
After exploring several options late last night and at this mornings Executive meeting, the MCDFNL can now advise that the revised Round 1 Fixture (and resultant changes going forward) will be as follows:
The revised (NEW) Round 1 Fixtures will be as follows:
Match: Dunolly FC V Avoca FC
Date: Friday 17th April
Venue: Princes Park
Note: This will now be a Dunolly FC HOME game with their return match in Rd 17 being an Avoca FC home game).
The MCDFNL is sincerely appreciative of the efforts of the AVOCA FC for accommodating this fixture change at short notice.
Match: Newstead V Talbot
Date: Saturday 18th April
Venue: Newstead
The MCDFNL thanks both clubs for agreeing to this change and also to the Newstead FC for hosting this game.
Match: Harcourt V Royal Park
Date: Saturday 18th April
Venue: Harcourt
The MCDFNL thanks both clubs for agreeing to this change and also to the Harcourt FC for hosting this game.
Match: Maldon V Campbells Creek
Date: Saturday 18th April
Venue: Maldon
The MCDFNL thanks both clubs for agreeing to this change and special mention & appreciation to the Campbells Creek FC for agreeing to play this game. Most will be aware that the Campbells Creek was originally scheduled to have the Bye in Round 1 (with some players having made plans for the weekend off) but the CCFC has agreed at short notice to accommodate this change.
Bye: Carisbrook, Maryborough Rovers, Trentham
Note: The Maryborough Rovers V Carisbrook game will be played in Round 14 when both clubs were scheduled to have the Bye.
Note 2: The old Round 1 will now become the new Round 6 Fixtures as follows:
- Dunolly V Maryborough Rovers
- Talbot V Avoca
- Newstead V Royal Park
- Trentham V Harcourt
- Carisbrook V Maldon
The revised Running Sheet for the Round 1 Fixtures and for next Friday nights game between Dunolly FC and Avoca FC is below, along with all other Round 1 Fixtures.

To avoid confusion, the MCDFNL will be reprinting our Fixtures and will issue all clubs with a new batch of Fixtures (and A3 size Fixture posters) in the coming week. In the interim, pls find attached to this Media Release a full copy of the revised 2009 MCDFNL Fixture.
MCDFNL President Troy Driscoll said: The League is sincerely appreciative of the fantastic co operation between all clubs to reschedule the leagues fixture to accommodate these changes since the tragic passing of Carl Lawrence. It is a great example of how football & netball clubs can pull together in tough times, and despite the on field rivalries there is a great willingness of clubs to work together and support each other off the field in tougher times. The MCDFNL wishes to express its sincere sympathy to the family of Carl Lawrence, and to all his many friends at the Maryborough Rovers FNC and throughout the league
