Sutterby is replacing outgoing Newtown & Chilwell coach Andrew Mapleson, making a return home to the club he played for and captained.
After coaching Newcomb to the 2005 BFL premiership and another grand final and the following year, Sutterby quit coaching because of a serious hip problem.
"It was always my intention to coach Newcomb for four or five years, but after the second grand final, I had to have major hip surgery at the end of 2006" Sutterby said.
"There was a lot of uncertainty and my two assistants, Matt (Bruhn) and Ricky (O'Toole) sort of took the reins, towards the end of the season and the final, while I was still there as senior coach on the sidelines".
Now ready to return to the coaching frame, Sutterby said he could have thought of a better club to take charge of, and has also name Bruhn as his assistant coach.
"I'm absolutely thrilled, I've been eyeing the opportunity to coach there for a number of years," he said.
"I always wanted to get back to coaching, and I've just bided my time, maybe to get back to Newtown & Chilwell. It's been a dream of mine for many years to lead the club that I have played and captained."
Sutterby has not been at Newtown & Chilwell in an official capacity since 2000, but kept a close eye on the team throughout the 2008 season.
The Eagles finished ninth, with six-and-a-half wins, after making the finals but being knocked out in the first week in 2007.
But he said he did not see the need for wholesale changes over summer.
"I don't think so, because the club's extremely well set up," he said.
"Their junior program is sensational and there's a good core group of young players, we just need to inject a couple of older heads and bigger bodies to support those guys so they're not getting brushed off the ball."
Sutterby said training would begin in November, as he focuses on building his new team around a strong fitness base.
Off the field, Newtown & Chilwell is planning extensions to its clubrooms, as well as building new netball facilities, launching a campaign to raise $150,000 over the next 12 months to fund the project.
