To celebrate the end of a very successful pre-season training effort, which saw a large number of new players to the women’s team, members of the Tuggeranong Hawks womens team travelled to the South Coast of NSW on 14/15 March to achieve some solidarity and get in just a little bit more exercise before the season kicks off.
The Saturday morning saw the ladies hike up Pigeon House mountain, which was to be only a small challenge for this group. Despite constant complaining at pre-season training about the amount of step-ups to be achieved, this proved to be mighty helpful in a climb up the side of a mountain that consisted of a million sleeper steps (large steps at that, hey Kez). The remainder of the day was spent chilling out at Bungalow Park, Burrill Lake over a few drinks and a bit of banter. Dinner at the Ex-Servicemans Club followed and the remainder of the night was given to more get-to-know-each-other time and dancing the night away (you go Ness).
As always, there were some moments of obscurity during the night and our knowledge of one another has increased. For example, we now know that some iron their jeans whilst wearing them, we know that dancing with your eyes closed can be dangerous and we know that possums bite....
Sunday saw the rise of a much bonded team, ready to face the beach activities; but not before much needed food, which was not without difficulty in achieving. A fit an active group hit the sand for some sprints and beach games. There was so much enthusiasm, you could not contain them. After a bit of running, a swim and a bit more chatting, it was time to head back to Canberra. The trip home proved to be a little more challenging for some and stops along the Clyde and the Kings Highway were required. A successful weekend that leads the Tuggeranong Hawks Women into a much anticipated season, in which we will strive to do our very best.
The girls would like to send a huge thank you to Doonz for all her pre-season work; all wonderfully organised training sessions and a fitness camp to really drill us at the end.
Bring on Round One.
