Scott Kennedy (Special K)
The incident happened on 19th Dec 2008, 4.30pm after completing a gym workout which he did 2 – 3 times a week. After this workout he got a headache which quickly progressed to a migraine hence he collapsed.
Found by other persons quickly, an ambulance had him to the Mackay Hospital pronto, and then the Flying Doctors Service flew him to Townsville where he was monitored in the Neo ward as he had a major bleed on the brain, other words a stroke.
Scott was placed into a drug induced coma for 14 days so that his brain could repair itself. The stroke happened in the Right Hemisphere area of the brain which caused left side paralysis due to a 6cm blood clot. It happened in an area which they were hesitating to operate as it would have be a major risk to other areas of the brain.
After waking from the coma, Scotty found himself in Rehab where he has now been for the past 8 – 10 weeks. With no sign of movement on his left side he had to learn all basic movements again including learning how to walk etc.
Due to his outlook on life and his motivation to become well again he quickly forged a relationship with the Rehab staff and is now improving everyday as he can now walk unaided with a leap which is improving every day. He also has some movement back in his arm and fingers.
Scott and his fiancé Kate, are now staying in a unit close to the Hospital so that he can start learn and do the everyday things that we all take for granted. He is now an outpatient and reports for his Rehab each day. Scott is hoping to be back in Mackay within the next 4 – 6 weeks????
On behalf of Scott, Kate and family l would like to take this opportunity to thank the Mackay City Hawks and the MAFL for assisting Scott and Kate with their Finances as l now he will be absolutely gob smacked by the efforts of you all.
Scott is 22 years old.
Thanks for caring and believing
